Lies of P does not have one officially designated beginner weapon. Its combat is built around combining weapons, using Legion Arms, and developing abilities, so the best starting approach is to learn how those systems fit your preferred playstyle. You can also adjust difficulty and controls, and the game’s balance and options have changed through updates.
How Lies of P’s combat is structured
The official game page describes combat through three connected tools: weapon combinations, Legion Arms, and abilities. Treat them as parts of one setup rather than searching for a universal “best” weapon. The game page does not prescribe a beginner weapon or a single optimal build. Lies of P official game page

Weapon combinations
Weapons can be assembled from components, giving you room to try combinations that suit how you want to fight. Use the in-game assembly warning when it appears: the Overture launch update added a warning for certain combinations with ineffective attack types. That warning is a useful check, not a ranking of every available weapon.
Legion Arms and abilities
Legion Arms and abilities round out the combat toolkit. Consider how each complements your weapon choice instead of expecting a weapon alone to determine your approach. The available sources confirm these systems but do not establish current weapon statistics, attack windows, upgrade paths, or a strongest early-game setup.

Choose a difficulty and control setup that works for you
The Overture launch update added three selectable difficulty levels. Find them under Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty; the notes say you can change the setting at any time. They also document separate Dash and Dodge assignments and an optional Auto Lock On When Attacking setting. Try the control options if the default layout or camera behavior is uncomfortable, and choose difficulty based on the challenge you want rather than a prescribed beginner setting. Use equipment and progression menus to check your setup
Check weight before committing
The Equipment menu gained a Weight preview in the Overture update. Use it to see how a change affects your setup before confirming it; the update confirms the preview exists, but does not establish a particular weight target for beginners.

Recalibrate the P-Organ when available
The update replaced the former P-Organ reset feature with P-Organ Recalibration, which lets you remove or equip individual Quartz. Do not assume this or every other menu feature is available from the start: the update notes do not specify first-playthrough unlock timing.
Why older weapon rankings may not hold up
Balance has changed since launch. In its November 2023 version 1.3.0.0 notes, the developer reported increased damage for some weapons, increased stance breaks for some weapons, and changes to the P-Organ ability Rising Dodge. The update also made Rising Dodge a default ability. Keep the current version and platform in mind
Official update notes dated 5 August 2026 announce availability on Nintendo Switch 2 as a Complete Edition and on the Epic Games Store for Windows. They also advise keeping the base game and update data on the same storage device.
