The effort targets server-based GPU operations: LG Uplus will validate and apply the work in service settings, while OptAI researches and develops optimization techniques. LG Uplus reports an early result of up to four times as many tokens processed on the same GPU, but the announcement does not provide benchmark conditions to show how broadly that figure applies.
What the partnership will do
Announced on October 2, 2026, the collaboration extends the companies’ work from on-device AI to server GPU environments. They aim to make model computation more efficient so the same GPU resources can handle more service requests. Their stated goals include reducing GPU and electricity use while improving response speed and maintaining service quality. LG’s announcement describes the effort; Edaily’s October 2 report independently confirms the announcement.

What token optimization means
In LG Uplus’s description, a token is a basic unit of data an AI processes when interpreting a question and generating an answer. Here, “token optimization” means reducing the model’s computational burden or improving how efficiently it processes tokens, with the aim of serving more requests using the same resources.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThis is an infrastructure-efficiency goal, not a claim that users will write shorter prompts or that the model will produce better answers. Whether an optimization preserves answer quality, and how much it improves speed or capacity, depends on the model and workload.

How much more can the same GPU process?
LG Uplus reports that its early GPU-based optimization research has reached up to four times the prior token throughput on the same GPU. “Up to” matters: this is the company’s reported result, not a universal multiplier or an independently verified industry benchmark.
The announcement does not identify the model or GPU configuration, workload, benchmark method, latency, or answer-quality measurements behind the figure. It therefore does not establish that other GPUs, models, or services will see the same increase. Nor does throughput alone show how much money or electricity a service will save: those outcomes depend on the workload, utilization, and the final implementation.

- Flexible Integration: The MX3 can be easily integrated into your existing systems via its M.2 M-key form factor and support for Linux operating systems.
- Energy Efficient: The MX3 is designed to provide high performance while minimizing power consumption.
- Comprehensive Software Development Kit (SDK): The MX3 is supported by a comprehensive SDK that simplifies development and deployment.
- Hardware compatability: The MX3 is compatible with the PCI-SIG M.2 M-key 2280 Specification. It can be used with the Raspberry Pi 5 with a M-key 2280 HAT.
When will the technology be available?
LG Uplus says it plans to introduce resulting technology in stages to its own AI services and large-scale AI infrastructure. The announcement gives no launch timetable, pricing, or customer access details, and does not describe an external product or offer. It is a research and deployment plan, not a customer product launch.
To assess any future implementation, useful published evidence would include throughput under a defined workload, response latency, output quality, GPU and power consumption, supported models, and reproducible test conditions. The current announcement provides no comparative measurements on those points beyond LG Uplus’s qualified same-GPU throughput claim.
