If your LG TV changes to an HDMI input by itself, first turn off SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) and see whether the switching stops. SIMPLINK lets connected devices—including devices in standby—send input-change signals to the TV. It is the leading documented cause, but not the only possibility.
1. Turn off SIMPLINK to test for HDMI-CEC switching
SIMPLINK is LG’s name for HDMI-CEC, a feature that lets HDMI-connected devices communicate with the TV. A console, set-top box, soundbar or streaming device may prompt the TV to change inputs, even while that device is in standby.

- Open Settings on the TV, then select All Settings.
- Find SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) under the HDMI settings. The route varies by webOS version: LG lists System → External Devices → HDMI Settings for webOS 26, and General → External Devices → HDMI Settings for webOS 6.0 and later models from 2021 onward. Other versions may use different labels or locations.
- Turn SIMPLINK off, then watch whether the TV still switches inputs.
These paths come from LG USA Support’s input-switching guidance; menus can differ by model. If SIMPLINK is off and the problem stops, that is consistent with a connected device triggering the change. The tradeoff is that external-device control functions may no longer work; LG documents this effect for webOS 6.0 and later.

2. Turn off Quick Start+
Quick Start+ can leave the TV in standby rather than fully powered down. LG recommends turning it off when troubleshooting incorrect input detection.

- Check the TV’s webOS version and locate the Quick Start+ setting using the route for that generation. LG’s current guide gives separate routes for webOS 26, 23, 6.0, 5.0, and 4.0 or earlier.
- Disable Quick Start+, then check whether automatic input changes continue.
Because LG’s menu route depends on software generation, do not assume a path shown for another model will match your TV. If the setting is missing, consult the support page for your exact model.
3. Delete saved connection history if the option is available
Saved connection data can affect how the TV recognizes attached devices. LG lists deleting connection history for webOS 6.0 and later models from 2021 onward, including webOS 26 sets.

- Open the TV’s settings and look for the connection-history or saved-connection-data option in the external-device settings.
- Delete the saved history if the option is present, then reconnect or use the HDMI device normally and check the result.
The option is not listed for every generation. If you cannot find it, skip this step rather than assuming the menu exists on your TV.

If you have several HDMI devices, isolate them one at a time. Start with a set-top box, soundbar, game console or streaming box. Some devices can send CEC signals while in standby, so the device does not necessarily need to be actively in use.

- With SIMPLINK enabled, disconnect or power down one HDMI device at a time.
- Allow enough time to see whether the TV changes inputs unexpectedly.
- If the behavior stops when one device is disconnected, reconnect it and test that device’s CEC or power-sync settings.
This is a troubleshooting check, not proof of a hardware fault. If turning SIMPLINK off alone stops the problem, the result points toward device-driven HDMI-CEC switching.
5. Check CEC and power-sync settings on the connected device
A connected device may have its own HDMI-CEC, power-sync or automatic-standby controls. LG’s guidance notes that these settings may need adjustment on a set-top box or another HDMI device as well as on the TV.

- Look in the device’s settings for HDMI-CEC, device control, power sync, TV control or automatic standby.
- If you are unsure which control affects input switching, consult the device maker or, for a service-provider set-top box, your provider.
Names and locations vary by device, so there is no universal menu path to provide.

6. Get model-specific help if the switching continues
If changing these settings does not resolve the problem, use LG’s chatbot or request a technician visit through LG Support. Share your TV’s model number, webOS version, connected HDMI devices, and which troubleshooting steps you tried. A menu or setting that is absent may simply be unsupported on your model; the symptom alone does not establish a hardware defect.
