If your LG TV changes to an HDMI input by itself, turn off SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) first. A connected set-top box, soundbar, or game console can send a signal that tells the TV to select its input—even while the device is in standby. If switching continues, turn off Quick Start+ and clear the TV’s saved connection history where that option is available.
Why an LG TV changes inputs by itself
LG identifies three likely causes: SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) lets a connected device control the TV, a connected device sends a signal while in standby, or the TV has a temporary problem with saved device-connection information. With SIMPLINK’s Auto Power Sync, for example, an HDMI device turning on can also turn on the TV and select the device’s video input. LG’s troubleshooting guide and its SIMPLINK feature guidance describe this behavior.

Try these fixes in order
1. Turn off SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)
Find SIMPLINK or HDMI-CEC in the TV’s HDMI or external-device settings and turn it off. This is LG’s first recommended fix for automatic input changes caused by connected devices. The trade-off is that HDMI-CEC control features may stop working, including linked power and input behavior. Menu names differ by webOS generation and model, so use the matching path in the table below rather than assuming one path applies to every LG TV.

2. Turn off Quick Start+
Quick Start+ affects how the TV powers down. LG recommends disabling it so the TV turns off completely rather than remaining in standby, which can help address incorrect input detection. Use the path for your TV generation below.

3. Delete connection history if your TV offers it
Clearing saved connection history resets stored device-recognition information so the TV can recognize connected devices again. LG lists this option for the 2021-and-later and 2026-and-later menu generations; it is not listed in the article’s steps for earlier generations.
LG settings paths by webOS generation
These menu paths are documented in LG’s troubleshooting guide. Labels and availability can vary by model. In particular, look for SIMPLINK or HDMI-CEC under HDMI settings; a path that mentions HDMI Deep Color may not lead to the SIMPLINK control. If the listed route does not match your screen, check LG support for your specific model.

If the TV still switches inputs
If the TV keeps changing inputs after these settings are adjusted, contact LG support or request a technician visit. LG recommends those next steps when its troubleshooting actions do not resolve the problem; continued switching alone does not establish that a particular component has failed.
