LFW212 teaches Node.js HTTP services, RESTful APIs, web servers, and security—but the JSNSD exam was retired on September 30, 2025. A listing that still calls itself a course-and-exam bundle does not establish that it includes an available exam. Confirm the bundle contents and current terms with the provider before purchasing.
What is LFW212?
LFW212 is the Linux Foundation’s Node.js Services Development course. The Linux Foundation’s October 2020 announcement described it as a course for developers building secure, maintainable RESTful JSON services, with material on Node.js core HTTP clients and servers, web servers, RESTful services, and web security essentials. The announcement framed it as training for developers looking to advance toward senior roles.

What does Node.js Services Development cover?
- HTTP clients and servers: Node.js core capabilities for handling HTTP communication.
- Web servers: Building server-side applications and services.
- RESTful services: Designing services that provide JSON-based APIs.
- Web security essentials: Security concepts relevant to Node.js services.
The course subject matter is relevant to developers who want practical service-development knowledge. It should be considered separately from whether a related certification exam can still be taken.

Is the JSNSD exam still available?
No. The Linux Foundation says the OpenJS Node.js Services Developer (JSNSD) exam was retired effective September 30, 2025. Its JSNSD inactive-certification notice is the current status reference; older pages describing the exam or preparation route do not make it active again.
#1 Best Overall
The Linux Foundation’s 2024 sample JSNSD curriculum path said its listed courses were not required exam prerequisites and presented LFW212 as a course that could improve preparation. That guidance predates the retirement and is not evidence of a current exam opportunity.
Does the LFW212 JSNSD bundle still include the exam?
The Linux Foundation’s O’Reilly partnership page has surfaced a listing titled “Node.js Services Development Course + OpenJS Node.js Services Developer (JSNSD) Exam,” with displayed prices of $395 and $336. Those are figures shown on the listing, not confirmation that an exam is currently supplied. The retirement notice leaves the listing’s present exam contents unresolved.

What did the historical bundle cost?
For context only, the Linux Foundation’s October 2020 announcement listed LFW212 at $299 and a course-plus-exam bundle at $499, with one year of access to course content and labs. These are launch-era terms, not current prices or access conditions.

In 2020, the Linux Foundation recommended familiarity with concepts covered by the OpenJS Node.js Application Developer (JSNAD) certification. It suggested LFW211 as a refresher for learners who needed to revisit Node.js application-development skills before taking LFW212. These recommendations describe the course’s historical learning context; they are not current prerequisites for a JSNSD exam, which is retired.

The same announcement mentions Node Cookbook by course author David Clements. It is an optional adjacent learning resource, not established by that announcement as official LFW212 material or JSNSD exam preparation.
