Voidbox Industries lists ratings of 6–60 VDC, 300 A continuous and 500 A peak; the peak figure is not a continuous-current rating. Its placement in the battery path means its readings show the net flow between charging sources and loads, not automatically separate totals for each.
What the PwrTool 500 measures
Voidbox Industries describes the PwrTool 500 as a DC battery and power monitor built around a FLIP-C3/ESP32-C3 controller and an INA238 measurement IC. ESPHome is the default firmware route for connecting it to Home Assistant, according to the manufacturer’s product documentation.

| Published specification | What it means |
|---|---|
| 6–60 VDC | Manufacturer-listed operating voltage range. |
| 300 A continuous; 500 A peak | Distinct continuous and peak current ratings; do not treat 500 A as a continuous rating. |
| INA238, 16-bit | Manufacturer-listed measurement IC and resolution. |
| SHTC3 | Onboard temperature and humidity sensor. |
| 45 W MOSFET output | Manufacturer-described output for controlling suitable external loads; verify electrical limits and installation guidance before connecting a load. |
These are Voidbox Industries’ published specifications, not independent measurements. A monitor like this can supply battery voltage, current and power data; whether it fits a particular installation depends on system voltage, expected continuous current, wiring and sensing-side compatibility.

How it fits into a Home Assistant battery setup
Home Assistant frames battery monitoring as tracking energy moving to and from batteries. Its battery integration guidance covers several approaches, including vendor APIs, DIY sensors and energy-meter components. The PwrTool 500 is a different physical arrangement from an AC current-transformer clamp: it is an inline DC shunt installed in a battery circuit.

The installation guide describes a sequence of wiring the unit, connecting it to Wi-Fi, then adopting it in Home Assistant. Adoption into ESPHome is optional. For the exact procedure and device-specific instructions, use the PwrTool 500 installation guide.
Install it in the battery path, not as a general-purpose AC sensor
The basic configuration in the manufacturer’s guide places the shunt inline with battery negative and the connected loads and chargers. Choose the sensing position before wiring: hot-side or cold-side sensing is selectable, and the unit is factory configured for cold-side. The guide calls for appropriately sized cables; cable size and connectors must suit the actual system and installation rather than a generic recommendation.

- 【Wide Application】Can be used as battery voltage meter, battery capacity tester panel for motorcycle, golf carts, car, marine, RV, boat, solar generator etc.
- Choose the sensing side. Decide whether the installation requires hot-side or cold-side sensing and follow the guide’s instructions before wiring. The factory setting is cold-side.
- Plan the battery-negative path. Place the monitor inline as directed so the intended battery current passes through the shunt. A path that bypasses the shunt will not be represented in its readings.
- Size and route the wiring for the system. Use appropriately sized cable and follow the installation documentation and applicable electrical requirements.
- Connect, configure Wi-Fi and adopt. Follow the guide’s order for network connection and Home Assistant adoption; ESPHome adoption is optional.
Home Assistant also documents AC CT-clamp monitoring as an option for suitable circuits, but that involves a different measurement method and circuit type. Its guidance notes that CT installation can require opening an electrical cabinet and may call for a qualified professional depending on local rules. Do not apply those AC-clamp instructions to this inline DC shunt.

When the shunt measures the battery path, current and power represent the net difference between charging and loads. For example, the manufacturer’s installation guide says that 100 W of charging with a 50 W load active produces a 50 W charging reading. That is useful for seeing whether the battery is gaining or losing power, but it is not a separate measurement of both the charger and load.

- APPLICATION --- The battery testers can be used for testing battery voltage and capacity for electric motorcycle, motorcycle, golf cart, automotive , car, marine, RV, boat, etc.
- APPLICABLE BATTERY --- The digital battery monitor is suitable for 7-100V (12v 24v 36v 48v 60v 72v 84v) Ternary lithium battery, lead-acid,AGM battery, LiFePO4 battery. Default 12 volt lead acid battery .
- PROTECTION ---The smart battery monitor with fully colsed protective shell, dustproof ,IPX7 Waterproof ,It can be used for indoor and outdoor. Even if you soak in water for 72 hours, it will not get water.Input reverse connection protection.
- INSTALLATION --- The red wire for the positive and the black wire for the negative. The wires length are 23.62 inches(60.0cm),we provide mounting bracket,double-side adhensinve and screw for conventient installing.
- Buzzer Alarm&Temperature--- The battery monitor can set low and high voltage buzzer alarm and short press"M"key can switch voltage and temperature(Celsius).
To see charger and load totals independently, compare the battery-path reading with another source of system data, such as a solar charge controller, or use additional PwrTool 500 units as the manufacturer suggests. The result depends on which current paths each measurement source actually covers.
Read power and energy as different measurements
Power is an instantaneous rate, usually shown in watts (W) or kilowatts (kW); energy is accumulated over time, usually shown in watt-hours (Wh) or kilowatt-hours (kWh). Home Assistant’s Power integration documentation describes power-based triggers and conditions. In a dashboard or automation, check whether a sensor represents power at a moment or accumulated energy before assigning units or interpreting a trend.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- 6V, 12V & 24V MONITORING - View voltage, estimated state of charge and temperature through the ANCEL BM300 Pro app. On supported 12V and 24V vehicle systems, review cranking and charging voltage tests. For 6V systems, use voltage, SOC and temperature monitoring; cranking and charging tests are not supported.
- MONITOR UP TO 4 BATTERIES - Each BM300 Pro connects to one battery. Add up to four BM300 Pro devices in the app to view four batteries from one phone, useful for multiple vehicles or separate battery banks. This package includes one monitor; additional batteries require additional monitors
- BLUETOOTH 5.3, NOT REMOTE CELLULAR - View live data and receive supported alerts when your phone is within Bluetooth range. The monitor stores up to 72 days of history while disconnected and syncs data when you reconnect. It does not provide Wi-Fi, cellular, or unlimited-distance monitoring
- APP DATA FOR BETTER CONTEXT - Review voltage, estimated SOC, temperature, cranking and charging results, trip records, and historical graphs. Trip and Find Car features use the phone’s location services and require permission; the monitor itself does not contain a GPS or cellular tracker
- MADE FOR LONG-TERM INSTALLATION - Average current draw is approximately 1mA. Built-in reverse-polarity and short-circuit protection support permanent installation, while the IP67-rated housing is designed for engine-bay conditions. For the best signal, mount away from thick metal obstructions and secure both terminal leads
How to assess whether it suits your system
- Match electrical ratings. Compare your system voltage with the listed 6–60 VDC range and expected current with the 300 A continuous rating; peak current is a separate 500 A figure.
- Check the wiring topology. Confirm that the battery-negative path you want to monitor can be routed through the inline shunt and that the selected sensing side fits the installation.
- Decide whether net flow is enough. A single battery-path reading does not independently report charger and load totals.
- Review connectivity and functions. The manufacturer describes ESPHome/Home Assistant support, onboard temperature and humidity sensing, and a MOSFET output. Check the documentation for the relevant setup and output limits.
- Compare like with like. When evaluating alternatives, compare voltage range, continuous versus peak current, sensing side and wiring, local Home Assistant connectivity, firmware options, sensors and controls, documentation, support, price and availability. Any comparisons on Voidbox’s product page are manufacturer-published comparisons, not independent evaluations.
