In the reported LFS258 Lab 5 incident, the Pod had no host because the scheduler could not find the PersistentVolumeClaim pvc-one required by its Deployment. The event identified the immediate cause: persistentvolumeclaim "pvc-one" not found. Check your own Pod’s latest events before changing anything; a similar error in another cluster may have a different cause.
What “does not have a host assigned” means
Kubernetes has not assigned the Pod to a node, so the Pod cannot start there. In this case, the original report showed six try1 Pods in Pending, with 0/2 containers ready. The decisive event was FailedScheduling: 0/2 nodes are available: 2 persistentvolumeclaim "pvc-one" not found. That points to a missing storage dependency in the reported cluster state, not, by itself, to a faulty GCP host. The scheduler places Pods on nodes according to scheduling constraints; see the Kubernetes scheduler documentation.

The error from kubectl exec is a symptom of the Pod not having been scheduled. Start with the scheduler event rather than treating the message as an exec or container problem. The Kubernetes Pod troubleshooting guide explains how to inspect status, events, configuration, and logs.

Repair the LFS258 Lab 5 storage setup
The forum response for this incident recommends completing the lab’s NFS and persistent-volume setup, then ensuring the Deployment’s claim reference matches a correctly configured volume and mount.
-
Confirm that the NFS packages and configuration required by the LFS258 lab are in place on the relevant nodes. Follow the lab instructions for the environment rather than substituting unrelated NFS settings.
-
Review the lab’s PersistentVolume manifest and update the required control-plane hostname as directed. The forum response identifies the expected PersistentVolume as

Create or correct the PersistentVolume and PersistentVolumeClaim. Verify that
pvc-oneexists and isBoundtopvvol-1. A PersistentVolume (PV) and PersistentVolumeClaim (PVC) are the cluster storage resources used for this relationship; see the Kubernetes persistent volume documentation. -
Check the Deployment manifest: its claim reference should name
pvc-one, and itsvolumesand containervolumeMountsentries should correspond to that claim and the intended mount path. -
Recreate the Deployment after correcting the storage objects and manifest, then inspect the Pods’ status and newest events to confirm they progress beyond
Pending.
When a clean rebuild is needed
The forum response suggests deleting the try1 Deployment, then the PVC, then the PV, and rebuilding the storage configuration and objects before recreating the Deployment. Treat that as a lab-specific recovery sequence, not a safe default for production: deleting storage resources may affect data depending on the storage setup and reclaim behavior. Preserve any needed data and check those policies before deleting objects outside this lab exercise.

The original poster wondered whether running the lab on GCP caused the error. The reported event instead names a missing PVC, and the forum responder attributes the unscheduled replicas to that missing application dependency. This evidence supports fixing the claim and its PV setup in that cluster; it does not establish that GCP is the cause or rule out unrelated infrastructure issues in a different cluster.
