LF Energy presented the Summit as a meeting for foundation members, developers, vendors, utilities and other energy-sector stakeholders to learn about projects and collaborate on open-source technologies and standards. The Linux Foundation announcement described more than 40 breakout sessions over two days and demonstrations of more than 30 open-source technologies for energy systems. Those are announcement figures; the release did not state an attendance total. The LF Energy archive later characterized the event as exploring collaborative approaches to digital technologies and standards that can optimize physical infrastructure, coordinate supply and demand, and integrate clean energy resources.

Speakers listed were Fang Fang of NEO BV, Neelima Janardhanan of Open Data Services Co-operative, Anders Pedersen of the World Bank / Energy Sector Management Assistance Program, and Dan Travers of Open Climate Fix.

Building an open-source business
Christophe Villemer of Savoir-faire Linux was listed for “Building an Open Source Business: the LF Energy SEAPATH Example.” The session connected a business-building theme to the SEAPATH project.
Open-source collaboration, energy transition and policy
“The Strategic Benefits of Open Source Collaboration for the Energy Transition and Policy” was scheduled with Lucian Balea of RTE, Dan Brown of LF Energy, Savannah Goodman of Google, Antonello Monti of RWTH Aachen University, and Jonas van den Bogaard of Alliander N.V.

Examples of announced breakout sessions
The announcement named these sessions as examples of the broader program, not as a complete schedule:
- Standards: “Why Open Standards are Important for the Energy Sector, and How to Progress Them.”
- Grid flexibility and platforms: “RomeFlex: SOGNO Platform in Action.”
- Demand forecasting: “Machine Learning for Short-Term Demand Forecasting on the Quebec Power Grid.”
- Solar forecasting: “Quartz Solar OS: Building an Open Source AI Solar Forecast for Everyone.”
Together, the examples indicate the range of topics: data infrastructure, standards, grid operations, forecasting, project development and policy. The announcement does not specify session durations, intended experience levels or enough schedule detail to compare every session.
Dates, location and historical registration details
The Linux Foundation announcement was published June 12, 2024, and said the Summit would be held September 5–6, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium. LF Energy’s pressroom archive later confirms that the gathering took place on those dates.
The release listed an early-bird registration price of $175 through July 7, 2024, and said sponsorship opportunities were available at announcement time. Both details are historical: the event has passed, so they are not current ticket or sponsorship offers.
