One reported event brings the studio’s fictional pressures together: a hacker called Cyberleek threatens to leak the game or demand a place in it. As of 3 October 2026, Steam lists 11 February 2027 as the planned Early Access date; the date may change, and a free demo is available now.
What is Let’s Build a Dungeon?
Developed and published by Springloaded, Let’s Build a Dungeon combines two linked simulations: managing a game studio and making the fantasy MMORPG that studio is developing. You handle people and business decisions, then shape the game world and see how its virtual players respond. Steam’s official game listing describes tools for creating worlds, stories, characters, dialogue, cutscenes, and gameplay mechanics.

The studio side is more than a backdrop. The game’s description and a PC Gamer interview with Springloaded founder and lead developer James Barnard point to hiring developers, managing schedules and finances, dealing with investors and publicity, and attending industry events. Barnard says the simulation also includes fictional competitors—“We have, like, 700 [fictional] games or something, and the list keeps on getting longer.” That is his approximate description of the simulation, not an independently counted total.
What does “cyberleeked” mean?
“Cyberleeked” refers to a reported in-game crisis, not real-world malware or a computer-security feature. In the scenario described by PC Gamer, a hacker has gathered information about the player’s fictional studio and threatens its unreleased game. Barnard explained the setup: “This is some super nerd who’s basically hacked your computer. Oh no, he’s been following your investors’ flights around the world, and he’s decided that you are making an MMO, and he’s looked at your financials and the other guy’s financials, and then he holds you to ransom.”
#1 Best Overall
- Best-selling Unstoppable Game Engine combined with a powerhouse IP like Dungeon Crawler Carl.
- Compatible with the OG Unstoppable game!
- A roguelike, momentum deck-building game set in the world of Dungeon Crawler Carl!
- Crafting cards levels up your abilities, but also boosts the threats you face!
- The next game in the best-selling Unstoppable Series.
The reported stakes are deliberately absurd and tied to the simulation: “He’s either going to leak the game, or he’s or he’s going to convince you to put him in the game. There’s lots of different outcomes.” The repeated “he’s” is part of Barnard’s quotation. The event turns the game’s studio-management systems into a comic dilemma about protecting a project or giving in to a bizarre demand.
What can you make inside the game?
The in-game MMORPG is built from fantasy-world elements such as quests, towns, monsters, and dungeons. Steam also describes tools for scripting stories and dialogue, staging cutscenes, and shaping characters and gameplay mechanics. The intended loop goes beyond placing scenery: build the game, tune it for simulated players, and play the result yourself. Steam’s listing also describes browsing or uploading games made by other players, alongside planned Twitch integration and online co-op in the full game.

Some of the studio details are unusually granular. Barnard says computer technology advances over time, which can affect the developer’s own operation: “When you go from CGA to VGA, you have to upgrade some of your computers, and then the size of everything expands and becomes bigger, so suddenly you need more hard drive space because all your assets are now high resolution.” He also describes travel to showcases as a logistical calculation: “We calculate where you started your company and where the event is. We actually calculate the distance and how long it takes and we do the stopovers in the right cities, so where your office is, is gonna impact you.” These are developer descriptions of the simulation’s systems, not independent assessments of how they play.
Which modes are available in the demo?
Steam lists three modes for the playable demo. The descriptions suggest different levels of structure and freedom:
