Verdict: The Legion 5i can be a compelling mid-range gaming laptop, but “ultimate” depends on the exact generation, GPU configuration and local price. Gen 10 and Gen 11 RTX 5070 models are not equivalent: Lenovo lists an 8GB RTX 5070 for a Gen 10 configuration, while a Tom’s Guide Gen 11 review unit used a 12GB RTX 5070. The results below belong to those specific tested machines, not every Legion 5i.
Which Legion 5i are we talking about?
Legion 5i is a product family, not one fixed specification. Lenovo’s U.S. listing for the Gen 10 15-inch Intel model includes RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 graphics options. Lenovo’s 2025 datasheet and PSREF list the Gen 10 RTX 5070 configuration with 8GB GDDR7 and a 115W TGP. By contrast, Tom’s Guide tested a Gen 11 with a Core Ultra 7 251HX and RTX 5070 with 12GB of memory. These are distinct configurations, and their specifications and performance should not be conflated. Lenovo’s Legion 5i Gen 10 listing and Lenovo PSREF are the appropriate places to verify the exact regional model; Lenovo notes that specifications can change without notice.

The evidence here covers two review units: PC Gamer’s Gen 10 RTX 5060 model with an Intel Core i7-13650HX, and Tom’s Guide’s Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB model. The tests use different methods and settings, so their results are useful as configuration-specific examples rather than a direct generation-to-generation comparison.
How fast is the Legion 5i in games?
Gen 10 RTX 5060: PC Gamer’s tested unit
PC Gamer’s benchmark table reports a native-resolution gaming average-FPS index of 64 and a 1% low index of 32 for its Gen 10 RTX 5060 review unit, with DLSS or frame generation used where applicable. These are that review’s aggregate measurements, not predicted frame rates for any single game or another configuration. PC Gamer includes the MSI Katana 15 HX and Asus TUF Gaming A16 in its comparisons, giving readers a useful same-review context. See PC Gamer’s Legion 5i review and benchmark tables.

Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB: Tom’s Guide’s tested unit
Tom’s Guide recorded an average score of 10,394 across seven 3DMark tests on its Gen 11 review unit. In its game tests, that laptop produced 44.1 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p with RT Ultra, 27 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong at 1600p Cinematic, and 50 FPS in Forza Horizon 6 at 1080p Extreme plus ray tracing. In Final Fantasy XIV at 1600p, the review says performance peaked above 100 FPS and settled around 90 FPS in most zones. The demanding settings matter: Tom’s Guide also found that the machine struggled to exceed 60 FPS in some intense titles at maximum resolution, while lowering settings made games playable. Read Tom’s Guide’s Legion 5i Gen 11 review.
Together, these tests show why the GPU, generation, resolution and graphics settings must accompany any performance claim. A Gen 11 12GB result should not be used to promise the same experience from a Gen 10 8GB RTX 5070, nor do the cited figures establish how a particular Legion 5i compares with current local alternatives at the same price.
Is the display a strength?
Tom’s Guide measured 491 nits average brightness and 137.5% DCI-P3 color-gamut coverage on its Gen 11 review unit. It also reported a 1,049-nit peak HDR brightness. Those measurements make that particular display appear bright and color-rich, but they apply to the tested panel and setup; they do not establish the brightness or color coverage of every Legion 5i screen option. Check the panel specification for the precise SKU you plan to buy.

What about heat, fan noise and memory?
PC Gamer found its Gen 10 RTX 5060 unit loud under load and reported a maximum CPU temperature of 99°C during its load test. In the review’s gaming measurements, the GPU averaged 81°C and the CPU 76°C. Those are test results for that review unit, not a guarantee of temperatures in every chassis configuration or environment. The review also noted that the tested machine had single-channel RAM, a memory layout worth checking before purchase because it can affect performance and may be upgradeable on a compatible SKU. PC Gamer’s review discusses that unit’s memory configuration.
Do not assume that every Legion 5i uses the same memory layout or has the same upgrade options. Before adding RAM, confirm the exact model’s supported DDR5 SODIMM specification and available slots in its Lenovo PSREF. Likewise, an additional M.2 NVMe SSD may be useful if the installed capacity is small, but slot count and compatibility vary and should be checked against the specific model documentation.
Can you game away from a power outlet?
Tom’s Guide measured 7 hours 3 minutes in its web-surfing battery test and 1 hour 27 minutes in its PCMark 10 gaming battery test on the Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB review unit. These are results from named tests, not guaranteed everyday runtimes. For extended gaming, treat the battery figure as a constraint and plan to play near a power outlet rather than infer desktop-like unplugged endurance.

Is the Legion 5i worth its price?
The answer hinges on the exact local offer: generation, screen size, GPU and VRAM, memory configuration, panel, and price. Lenovo’s U.S. listing establishes Gen 10 RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 options, but it does not provide a stable price for a buying recommendation. No country, exact retail SKU or live deal is specified here, so a universal “best mid-range” verdict would be misleading.

- Consider a Gen 11 RTX 5070 12GB offer if you value the reviewed unit’s strong performance and bright, wide-gamut screen, while accepting that demanding maximum-resolution game settings can still require compromises and gaming on battery is short-lived.
- Compare like with like: Match GPU generation and VRAM, native resolution and settings, panel quality, RAM configuration, and price. Review benchmarks are useful context, but differences in test protocol make cross-review comparisons less definitive.
Before buying, identify the complete model number on the retailer listing and cross-check its regional Lenovo specification page. Compare that exact configuration with alternatives at the same current price; a premium over comparable laptops needs to be justified by the Legion’s specific screen, GPU, build and upgrade characteristics, not by the family name alone.
