Choose the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 if you want a larger 13-inch canvas, an optional paper-like anti-glare surface, a 144 Hz panel and microSD expansion. For handwritten notes, the deciding factors are working area, carry weight and whether the required pen is included in your local package.
“Lenovo tablet” is not a single specification. This comparison uses the Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 against the 2026 iPad Air with M4. Lenovo’s older Idea Tab Pro and its base Lenovo Tab are different products, and their pen support cannot be assumed from this matchup.

What this comparison actually covers
Model identity matters more than the logo on the back. The Lenovo reference here is Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, whose official PSREF is dated October 8, 2026. The Apple reference is the 2026 iPad Air powered by M4, available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. Lenovo’s preceding Idea Tab Pro is a separate 12.7-inch tablet with different dimensions and display specifications. The base Lenovo Tab specification lists passive-pen support, so it is not evidence that every Lenovo tablet accepts an active, pressure-sensitive stylus.
The conclusions below are drawn from published specifications and compatibility information. They do not establish handwriting latency, stroke accuracy, palm-rejection quality in real use, or subjective “paper feel.” No independent head-to-head drawing test is available to support a claim that one device produces cleaner lines or a faster response.

Lenovo tablet vs iPad Air: the key specifications
| Specification | Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 | 2026 iPad Air M4 |
|---|---|---|
| Display sizes | 13-inch option | 11-inch and 13-inch models |
| Display resolution | 3504 × 2190 (3.5K option) | 11-inch: 2360 × 1640; 13-inch: 2732 × 2048 |
| Aspect ratio | 16:10 | Not stated in the cited specifications |
| Pixel density | Not stated | 264 ppi on both sizes |
| Brightness | Up to 600 nits typical and 800 nits peak | 11-inch: 500 nits; 13-inch: 600 nits |
| Color and refresh | 99% DCI-P3; up to 144 Hz | P3 color; refresh-rate figure not stated |
| Surface treatment | Paper-like anti-glare treatment on a configuration | Antireflective coating |
| Active pen | Lenovo Tab Pen Plus; 4096 pressure levels, tilt detection and palm rejection | Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil USB-C |
| Weight | Approximately 598 g | Wi-Fi 11-inch: 464 g; Wi-Fi 13-inch: 616 g |
| Storage expansion | microSD expansion included | Fixed capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB |
| Battery statement | No like-for-like result established | Up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi web surfing or video playback under Apple’s specified test |
These figures describe different configurations and measurement methods. A higher resolution or refresh-rate number alone does not prove better drawing quality, and a diagonal measurement does not tell you how comfortable a page feels once toolbars and split-screen panels are open.
Which has the better canvas for drawing?
Lenovo’s larger, wider working area
The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2’s 13-inch 16:10 panel gives a broad workspace for full-page sketches, reference images and a notes app side by side. The published 3504 × 2190 option is a 3.5K-class display, and Lenovo lists 99% DCI-P3 color coverage. A 144 Hz maximum refresh rate may make scrolling and animated interface elements appear more fluid, although the specification does not predict pen latency or line rendering.
Some configurations add a paper-like anti-glare treatment. That is useful when overhead lights or windows are a problem and may be preferable to a glossy surface for long handwriting sessions. Confirm that the exact regional configuration has this treatment; it is not stated as universal to every Idea Tab Pro Gen 2.

Apple offers a choice that Lenovo’s single 13-inch reference does not: an 11-inch iPad Air for easier carrying, or a 13-inch model for more room. The 11-inch panel is 2360 × 1640 at 264 ppi and 500 nits. The 13-inch version is 2732 × 2048 at 264 ppi and 600 nits. Both use P3 color and an antireflective coating.
The 13-inch iPad Air is the closer physical match to Lenovo’s large canvas, while the 11-inch model prioritizes portability. Apple’s specifications do not state a refresh-rate value in the information used here, so it would be inaccurate to declare it faster or slower than Lenovo’s 144 Hz panel. Likewise, neither the antireflective coating nor Lenovo’s paper-like option is a measured substitute for an actual writing-surface test.
How to choose a display for your work
- Choose the larger panel when you routinely draw at high zoom, keep a reference image visible, or write multi-page notes without constantly panning.
- Choose the 11-inch iPad Air when the tablet travels in a small bag and most notes are short meeting pages or outlines.
- Prioritize a matte or paper-like configuration if reflections interrupt your sessions; check the exact Lenovo part number rather than relying on the family name.
- Compare aspect ratio as well as diagonal size. Lenovo’s 16:10 shape and Apple’s listed resolutions create different page proportions, so a document may show different margins at the same zoom.
Which stylus works with each tablet?
Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2: Tab Pen Plus only in the published match
Lenovo specifies support for the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus on Idea Tab Pro Gen 2. Its published capabilities include 4096 pressure levels, tilt detection and palm rejection. Lenovo also warns that a pen may not be bundled and that availability varies by country or region. Treat “tablet price” and “ready-to-write price” as separate figures until the checkout configuration confirms the contents.

Apple lists both Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C as compatible with the current 11-inch and 13-inch M4 Air. The two accessories are not equivalent for artists.
| Pen feature | Apple Pencil Pro | Apple Pencil USB-C |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure sensitivity | Supported | Apple’s selector lists pressure sensitivity as unavailable |
| Barrel roll | Supported | Not listed |
| Squeeze control | Supported | Not listed |
| Haptic feedback | Supported | Not listed |
| Find My | Supported | Not listed |
| Pairing and charging | Wireless pairing and charging when attached | Charges through a USB-C cable; magnetic attachment is for storage |
For pressure-sensitive painting, shading and brush-size changes controlled by hand force, Apple Pencil Pro is the relevant iPad accessory. The USB-C Pencil can be a sensible choice for basic annotation and handwriting if your apps do not need pressure response, but the absence of pressure sensitivity changes its suitability for drawing.
Apple Pencil compatibility changes across iPad generations. Use Apple’s selector for the exact M4 Air size before buying an older Pencil, and do not assume that a pen that fits one iPad Air generation works with another.
iPad Air or Lenovo tablet for taking notes?
Writing area versus daily carry
The Lenovo is listed at approximately 598 g. The 13-inch Wi-Fi iPad Air is 616 g, while the 11-inch Wi-Fi model is 464 g. That makes the 11-inch iPad the clear lightest option in this specific comparison; the large iPad and Lenovo are much closer in carry weight. Add a case, keyboard or folio to whichever device you choose, because accessories can materially change the load.

A large screen reduces page changes and leaves room for a split view with a PDF, but it occupies more desk and bag space. An 11-inch tablet is easier to hold in one hand during a commute or while standing. Neither weight figure includes your chosen cover or keyboard.

Paper management and storage
Lenovo includes microSD expansion, which can be useful for a large offline PDF library, exported drawings or classroom recordings. Apple’s listed iPad Air capacities are fixed at 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB; there is no microSD slot in the specifications cited here. Select enough internal storage for the files you keep locally, rather than assuming you can add a card later.
Storage does not determine handwriting quality. It affects how you organize notebooks, source images and exports, particularly if you work offline or keep multiple creative applications installed.
Pen ergonomics and controls
Both platforms document palm rejection for the relevant active-pen workflow only on the Lenovo specification cited here; Apple’s Pencil feature list emphasizes the Pro’s pressure sensitivity, squeeze, barrel roll, haptics and device finding. Those controls can reduce trips to an on-screen toolbar while drawing. If your note routine is mostly text, diagrams and highlighting, the extra controls may matter less than a comfortable screen size and a pen that is actually included.
Drawing workflow: where each option makes sense
Choose the iPad Air M4 when Pencil Pro controls are central
- You use pressure-sensitive brushes and want the accessory to support that input explicitly.
- You expect to switch tools with squeeze or orient a brush using barrel roll.
- Haptic feedback and Find My are useful parts of your hardware routine.
- You prefer a smaller 11-inch canvas for travel, or want Apple’s 13-inch choice without changing platforms.
These are feature-led reasons, not a claim that every drawing application renders better on iPadOS. Check that the apps you already use support the Pencil features you care about.
Choose the Lenovo when canvas and removable storage come first
- You want the published 13-inch 3.5K option with 16:10 proportions.
- A 144 Hz panel and 99% DCI-P3 specification fit your display priorities.
- You prefer a paper-like anti-glare configuration and can verify that it is included in your region.
- microSD expansion is important for large reference libraries or exported artwork.
- You are comfortable confirming and, if necessary, purchasing Tab Pen Plus separately.
The Lenovo specification confirms pressure levels, tilt and palm rejection for Tab Pen Plus, but it does not establish real-world stroke latency or pressure-curve quality.
Apps, files and operating-system fit
No broad “best apps” winner is established by the specifications here. The practical question is whether your existing note and drawing applications, cloud storage and file formats work on the operating system you already use. Check the app’s current feature list for pressure support, PDF markup, handwriting search, cloud synchronization and export formats before changing platforms.

Consider the devices around the tablet. A household already using Apple hardware may value continuity features, while an Android or Windows workflow may make removable storage and familiar file handling more convenient. Those are ecosystem decisions, not proof that one platform has inherently superior note-taking software.
Cost: compare a complete writing setup, not a bare tablet
Current like-for-like local prices were not established for this comparison, and Lenovo states that configurations and pen availability vary by country or region. Avoid a “best value” conclusion based on a tablet-only price or a US listing that cannot be purchased where you live.
Build a checkout comparison with the same categories:
- Select the exact Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 configuration, including display treatment, memory and storage.
- Confirm whether Lenovo Tab Pen Plus is in the box. If not, add the correct pen part number.
- Select the 11-inch or 13-inch iPad Air M4 and its internal-storage tier.
- Add Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil USB-C according to your drawing requirements.
- Add a case, screen protector and keyboard only if your workflow needs them; Lenovo’s 2-in-1 Keyboard Pack is an available accessory for Idea Tab Pro Gen 2.
- Compare tax, shipping, warranty and return terms in your country, then compare the total ready-to-write prices.
Because no current matched prices are established, this article cannot name a value winner. Recheck the bundle contents immediately before ordering.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Battery expectations without a false winner
Apple states up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi web surfing or video playback for iPad Air under its disclosed test conditions. Apple’s exact statement is: “Testing conducted by Apple in January and February 2026 using preproduction iPad Air 11-inch (M4) and iPad Air 13-inch (M4) units.” This is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently replicated or head-to-head result.
The official specifications used here do not provide a matched Lenovo battery figure or a common test protocol. Drawing brightness, wireless radios, refresh settings, connected accessories and app workload can all change runtime, so there is no defensible battery winner from these figures alone.

Setup checklists
Before buying the Lenovo
- Confirm the product name says Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, not the older Idea Tab Pro or base Lenovo Tab.
- Check the screen resolution, anti-glare treatment, storage and memory for the exact regional SKU.
- Confirm Tab Pen Plus compatibility and whether the pen is bundled.
- Verify the pen part number; do not infer compatibility from “Tab Pen Pro” branding.
- Decide whether microSD capacity and a 2-in-1 Keyboard Pack justify the configuration you are selecting.
Before buying the iPad Air
- Choose 11-inch for minimum weight or 13-inch for a larger page.
- Choose internal storage based on your offline notebooks, PDFs and artwork because the listed capacities are fixed.
- Select Apple Pencil Pro for pressure-sensitive drawing and its documented controls; select USB-C Pencil only when its feature set meets your needs.
- Check Apple’s compatibility selector for the current M4 generation rather than relying on an older Pencil listing.
- Budget for a case and any keyboard separately from the tablet and Pencil.
Common purchasing mistakes and fixes
Mistake: treating every Lenovo tablet as an active-pen tablet
Fix: match the exact model and pen. Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 supports Tab Pen Plus in the cited specification; the base Lenovo Tab’s passive-pen description does not establish the same capability.
Mistake: buying a Lenovo pen by name alone
Fix: confirm the part number and regional compatibility. Tab Pen Plus is the pen listed for this comparison; a separate Tab Pen Pro/AP600U support page describes a different family.
Mistake: choosing the USB-C Pencil for pressure-sensitive art
Fix: use Apple Pencil Pro when pressure sensitivity, squeeze, barrel roll or haptics are requirements. Apple lists pressure sensitivity as unavailable for the USB-C Pencil.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Mistake: comparing diagonal sizes without considering working layout
Fix: consider aspect ratio, toolbars, split-screen use and the page size you actually write on. Lenovo’s 16:10 canvas and the iPad Air’s two sizes serve different layouts.
Mistake: assuming a listed battery maximum is a personal runtime guarantee
Fix: treat Apple’s 10-hour statement as a controlled manufacturer estimate and look for a matched test before making a battery comparison.
Decision guide: which should you buy?
| Your priority | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure-sensitive illustration with shortcut controls | iPad Air M4 with Apple Pencil Pro | Pencil Pro documents pressure sensitivity, squeeze, barrel roll and haptics. |
| Largest single canvas and a 16:10 layout | Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 | 13-inch 3.5K option and 16:10 aspect ratio. |
| Lowest tablet carry weight | 11-inch iPad Air M4 | 464 g for the Wi-Fi model in Apple’s specification. |
| Expandable local storage | Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 | microSD expansion is listed. |
| Predictable pen inclusion | Neither without checking the package | Lenovo says pen availability varies; Apple Pencil is a separate choice. |
| Paper-like anti-glare option | Lenovo configuration with that treatment | The option is listed, but it must be confirmed on the regional SKU. |
| Fixed internal-storage choices up to 1 TB | iPad Air M4 | Apple lists 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB capacities. |
Final recommendation
For drawing, the iPad Air M4 is the feature-led choice when Apple Pencil Pro’s documented pressure sensitivity and controls are central to your work. For notes, select between the 11-inch iPad’s lighter carry weight, the 13-inch iPad’s larger page and Lenovo’s approximately 598 g 13-inch canvas with microSD expansion. The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is compelling when its 3.5K, 144 Hz, wide-color and paper-like display configuration matters more than Apple’s pen ecosystem.
Whichever route you take, verify the exact model, storage, display treatment and stylus bundle in your country. The tablet name alone does not tell you whether the right pen is included or whether the configuration has the surface and storage you need.
