LEGO describes its connection as “clutch”: studs on top of a piece meet tubes inside another, with the studs wedged between the tubes and the surrounding brick walls. The company says evenly spaced internal tubes help improve clutch. LEGO says three flat plates stacked together equal the height of a regular brick, and its 2-by-1 brick uses a solid-tube design. It recommends a brick separator to take apart elements with strong clutch. That tool helps with disassembly; it does not establish compatibility between brands.
Are LEGO bricks compatible with other brands?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer for every building-block system or element. LEGO and DUPLO: specific, limited compatibility
LEGO says some LEGO bricks and DUPLO bricks can be used together in particular configurations: a LEGO element needs an even number of studs to fit a DUPLO element, and LEGO bricks fit DUPLO bricks with hollow studs on top. MEGA BLOKS and MEGA Construx are different examples
Mattel describes MEGA BLOKS as large blocks designed for small hands to grip and stack. That toddler-block description does not establish that they connect to standard LEGO bricks. MEGA Construx, by contrast, is a separate building-set line: Mattel lists its Inventions Space Brick and Bright Brick sets as 200-piece products for ages 5 and up. How to compare build quality fairly
LEGO says classic bricks use ABS plastic, while different elements may use different plastics depending on their intended function. A material label by itself does not show that bricks from different manufacturers have the same fit, feel, durability, or finish. LEGO’s materials information.

- Fit and clutch: Do the specific pieces connect securely enough for the intended model?
- Assembly and separation: Are they comfortable to put together and take apart?
- Finish: Check molding, color consistency, surface finish, and printed details.

Mattel’s Spring 2026 catalog lists MEGA BLOKS Big Building Bag products for ages 1+ at a suggested retail price of $21.99 per toy, and warns that product information and prices may change.
