Choose the LEGO Atari 2600 (10306) for an 1980s console-and-joystick display with three game cartridges, three themed builds, and a hidden retro room. The PlayStation is smaller; the Atari has more pieces. Availability is also different: LEGO lists the PlayStation for release on October 4, 2026, and labels the Atari set retired in the US.

Choose PlayStation 72306 for a smaller, interactive 1990s display
The PlayStation set centers on the original Sony console and its first controller. LEGO describes the replica as near 1:1 scale and includes functional Open and Power buttons, giving the build small interactive details beyond its display shape. The controller plugs into the console.

Its additional scenes draw on Gran Turismo, released in 1997, and Ape Escape, released in 1999. That makes this the more directly appealing choice for someone whose nostalgia is tied to the first PlayStation era and those games. LEGO lists the set at 1,911 pieces and over 6 × 26 × 19 cm. Neither its lower piece count nor smaller footprint, by itself, establishes build difficulty or quality.

LEGO’s official US listing gives a price of $179.99 and says “Coming soon on October 4, 2026.” Treat that as the listed release information, not confirmation of live stock: check the product page or a retailer for availability when buying. See LEGO’s official PlayStation 72306 page.
Choose Atari 2600 10306 for more game-themed display pieces
The Atari build recreates the console and joystick, with three cartridges—Asteroids, Adventure, and Centipede—and a cartridge holder. LEGO also describes front-panel switches that mimic the console. The set adds a build inspired by each of those games and a hidden 1980s room vignette.

- Light Accessories Only: BrickSoul LED light kit is designed for the LEGO PlayStation 72306 building set; lighting and touch-control components only are included, and the brick model is sold separately
- Layered Retro Gaming Lighting: Color-changing illumination adds depth to the gray console and original-style controller while drawing attention to the disc lid, front controls and hidden diorama areas. The shifting accent color turns the near 1:1 display into a stronger game-room centerpiece without losing the clean retro-console look.
- Touch Color-Changing Control: Use the touch area for power and color changes, then double-tap to cycle through multiple lighting effects. Press and hold to fine-tune pattern speed and brightness, from a steady retro-console glow to a more dynamic game-room scene.
- Easy Installation with Online Guides: Numbered light packs, slim wiring, and online video and PDF instructions help keep installation clear and cable placement neat around the console and controller; power with the included battery box, a compatible power bank, or a 5V USB adapter; batteries not included
- 1-Year Replacement Support: Made for retro gaming fans, collectors, and display builders who want to upgrade their 72306 console display; contact us through Amazon messages for installation help or product support
At 2,532 pieces, it has more pieces than the PlayStation set, and its main console is larger at over 8 × 33 × 22 cm. The difference is useful for planning display space; it does not prove that Atari is harder to build or better value. LEGO’s US page labels the set “Retired Product.” It displays $239.99, but that page does not establish current stock or the price you will pay from a reseller. Check the seller, item condition, and current asking price before purchasing. Details are on LEGO’s official Atari 2600 page.
How to make the decision
- Start with the recipient’s gaming era. The PlayStation set evokes the original PlayStation and 1990s games; Atari is an 1980s console tribute. For a gift, confirm which era the person actually prefers.
- Compare the display, not just the consoles. PlayStation adds a controller, functional buttons, and two game-inspired scenes. Atari brings a joystick, three cartridges, three game scenes, and a hidden room.
- Measure the shelf. LEGO’s published dimensions make the PlayStation the smaller console model. Allow for any extra room the accompanying pieces or scenes need in your chosen display arrangement.
- Check availability and price at purchase time. LEGO lists PlayStation’s US release date as October 4, 2026, while its Atari page says retired. Retailers may have different stock; the official Atari page’s displayed amount should not be treated as a current resale quote.
What the price and piece counts do—and do not—tell you
LEGO announced a US price of $179.99 for PlayStation in 2026. Atari’s original US recommended retail price was $239.99 at its 2022 launch. Those are manufacturer prices from different release periods, not a like-for-like comparison of what either set costs today. For Atari in particular, a retired label means current seller listings and condition matter more than the old recommended retail price.

The available product details support comparing their contents and footprints, but do not establish a hands-on head-to-head verdict.
