Legendary champions often have standout stats and abilities, but Plarium says rarity alone does not guarantee that a Legendary is better than a lower-rarity champion. An Epic with the right skills, gear, and role on your roster can be the more useful first investment.
Start with the content you need to clear
Before spending resources, name the specific problem you want your next build to solve: a Campaign stage, a Dungeon, Clan Boss, Arena, or another mode. Then compare your Epic and Legendary candidates by what their actual skills contribute to that task and how those skills fit the champions you already use.

A champion who fills a missing role or complements your current team may be more valuable than one whose abilities duplicate what you already have. That is a roster-specific decision, not a universal ranking of Epic against Legendary. Plarium itself cautions that Legendaries are not always superior to less-rare champions. Plarium’s champion overview describes Legendary champions as having the highest base stats and standout abilities, while also making clear that gold rarity is not a guarantee of superiority.
Compare the investment, not just the frame
Building a champion takes more than choosing whom to level. Rank-ups require same-rank champions as food or Chickens, and the champion returns to Level 1 after ranking up. Skill upgrades can improve damage, chances, and cooldowns, but Skill Tomes are hard to come by; Plarium advises saving them for champions you actually intend to invest in. The Tavern guide covers leveling, rank-ups, skills, and ascension.

Consider the whole bill: food for rank-ups, leveling time, ascension materials, suitable gear, and any skill tomes the champion needs to work well. If one candidate already performs its job without scarce tomes while the other depends on multiple upgrades, that can reasonably tip the decision—provided both are being judged against the same progression goal.
Use gear and team fit to judge likely performance
Champion rarity is only one input to a build. Plarium’s Gear Overview says gear rarity determines how many substats an item starts with, while gear rank affects its stat values. A well-equipped Epic may therefore be a more practical choice for your account than a Legendary you cannot yet gear effectively. This is not a claim that Epics generally outperform Legendaries; it is a reminder that the champion’s color does not tell you how your finished team will perform.

A quick decision rule
- Pick the bottleneck: Identify the next mode, stage, or fight you want to improve.
- Compare the kits: Check which candidate’s skills provide the help that target needs and whether those skills require upgrades to be useful.
- Check roster fit: Favor the champion who contributes something your current team lacks, rather than assuming the rarer option adds more value.
- Price the build: Account for rank-up food, levels, ascension, gear, and any relevant Skill Tomes.
- Invest in the better fit: Build the Epic first if it solves the immediate problem with resources you can spare. Choose the Legendary first if its particular kit addresses that same problem better and you can afford to develop it.
This is a conditional rule for choosing between champions you already have—not a claim that Epics are generally better or a recommendation to summon for a particular rarity. Plarium’s beginner tips provide additional official progression guidance.

These are acquisition odds, not measures of how useful a champion will be after you obtain one. Void Shards can unlock only Void-affinity champions, according to Plarium’s champion overview. The rates do not establish a build priority or mean that paid shards are needed to progress.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why there is no universal Epic-versus-Legendary ranking
The right first build depends on your target mode, the champions already on your roster, the skills each candidate brings, and the resources available to develop them. The official guidance supports the principle that rarity is not absolute, but it does not establish a current, named-champion ranking that applies to every account. For a specific champion recommendation, use a current, mode-specific guide and account for the game’s balance updates rather than treating rarity as a substitute for that comparison.
