Worlds 2026 uses several different draws, not one tournament-wide random selection. The Play-In draw creates a fully random four-team bracket; the first Swiss draw uses tier pairings and protects teams from same-region opponents; later Swiss draws match teams with the same record without rematches; and the quarterfinal draw assigns the eight Swiss qualifiers to the Knockout bracket. Riot’s rules were published before these scheduled draws, so the matchups below are not known yet.
What “the draw” means at Worlds
A draw determines pairings, but its rules depend on the stage. At Worlds 2026, those rules shape the Play-In bracket, the Swiss opening round, subsequent Swiss rounds, and the quarterfinals. The overall format is a four-team Play-In that sends one team forward, a 16-team Swiss stage, and an eight-team single-elimination Knockout stage, as summarized in Riot’s Worlds 2026 handbook.

Riot’s March 22, 2026 update says the event has 19 teams, including an additional CBLOL slot in the 2026 allocation. That total does not mean all 19 teams enter the same draw: four slots are involved in Play-Ins, while the Swiss stage has 16 teams.
Play-In draw: a fully random four-team bracket
The Play-In draw determines the opening matchups in a four-team, best-of-five, double-elimination bracket. Riot says it is fully random: any team can face any other team. There is no tier restriction or same-region protection specified for this draw.

The four named slots are the second CBLOL team, Karmine Corp (KC), Cloud9 Kia (C9), and MVK Esports (MVK). Riot scheduled the draw for after the CBLOL final on October 10, 2026; as of October 7, those matchups had not been drawn. The winner of the Play-In advances to the 16-team Swiss stage.
Initial Swiss draw: tiers set Round 1 pairings
The initial Swiss draw determines Round 1. Riot divides the 16 teams into four tiers: Tier 1 faces Tier 4, while Tier 2 faces Tier 3. Teams from the same region cannot meet in this opening round.

Swiss draws for Rounds 2–5: same record, no rematches
After Round 1, each draw pairs teams that have the same match record. For example, teams at 1–0 are paired against other 1–0 teams. A team cannot face an opponent it has already played in the Swiss stage. Unlike the opening round, same-region opponents may meet from Round 2 onward.

Swiss lasts five rounds. A team that reaches three wins qualifies for Knockouts; a team that reaches three losses is eliminated. The draws therefore determine not just the next opponent, but which same-record teams are still in contention together, subject to the no-rematch rule.
Quarterfinal draw: assigning the eight Knockout teams
Once Swiss is complete, the eight qualifiers enter single-elimination Knockouts. Riot’s stated rule separates the two 3–0 teams from the four 3–2 teams: the 3–0 teams are randomly paired against two of the 3–2 teams. The four remaining qualifiers are then randomly paired into the other two quarterfinal matches.
