For playing a prerecorded video into YouTube Live, Wirecast is the better-documented fit. The Wirecast 16 Windows guide explains how to add a local media file as a shot and set it to loop when playback ends. Larix Broadcaster’s reviewed documentation covers mobile live capture and YouTube publishing, but does not document selecting a prerecorded file or setting up a playlist. That is a limit of the reviewed documentation, not proof that no Larix version or workaround can do it.
Which app fits this job?
The key difference is the input: Larix is documented for streaming live video captured on a phone, while Wirecast’s Windows version 16 guide documents using a local media file as a source. Telestream also documents YouTube as a Wirecast output destination. These are documented capabilities, not results from hands-on testing.

How to play and loop a video with Wirecast
The steps below are for Wirecast 16 on Windows, the edition covered by the cited user guide. Labels and behavior may differ in another edition or release, so check the documentation for the version you have installed.
- Load the recording. In Wirecast, import or browse to the local media file, then add it as a media-file shot. The guide describes both importing a file and adding a media file to a shot.
- Set the end behavior. Open the media file’s settings and choose Loop under When Finished to restart the clip when it ends. The Telestream Wirecast 16 Windows guide says: “Loop causes the media to begin playing again.” The documented alternatives include Hold and Remove.
- Configure YouTube as the output. Open Output Settings and select YouTube, following Telestream’s YouTube setup instructions. Complete the connection and event setup in YouTube as prompted.
- Check the whole path before going live. Preview the file and confirm it decodes, the picture is framed as intended, and audio is present and usable. Check the YouTube event and output settings before starting the broadcast. These are practical checks, not claims that a particular file or computer has been tested.
One clip is not the same as a playlist
The cited Wirecast guide supports adding a media file as a shot and choosing its end behavior. Do not assume that this alone will automatically sequence several files unattended; verify playlist behavior in the documentation for your installed version and workflow.

Where Larix fits—and where the evidence stops
Use Larix when the source is a live phone camera and you want to publish that feed to YouTube. Softvelum’s setup guidance describes configuring YouTube publishing through connection settings and advises using video-plus-audio mode, an appropriate bitrate, and compliance with YouTube’s requirements. It does not provide a documented method for selecting a local recording as the source, so it is not the evidenced choice for prerecorded playout.
YouTube’s encoder help also describes Larix as a mobile app for capturing and streaming live. Its listing of Wirecast Go as an iOS mobile production app does not establish that Larix can play local prerecorded files.

Important checks before broadcasting
- Copyright and permissions: only stream material you have the rights to use. YouTube’s encoder guidance points users to YouTube requirements; check the rules that apply to your content and channel before scheduling or starting a stream.
- File and system compatibility: the guide establishes that Wirecast 16 for Windows can use media-file shots, but it does not guarantee that every file will decode correctly on every computer. Preview your own recording and check its audio and framing.
- Account and event setup: YouTube’s live-stream availability and interface can depend on account eligibility and may change. Follow the current YouTube prompts for your account and event rather than relying on an old screen-by-screen walkthrough.
- Looping scope: Loop repeats the selected media file at its end; it does not by itself establish multi-file playlist sequencing.
Common problems and what to check
- The recording does not appear as an available shot: confirm that you imported or browsed to the intended local file and added it as a media-file shot. If it still fails, check the file in Wirecast and consult documentation for your installed version; the cited guide does not guarantee support for every format.
- The clip stops instead of repeating: check the media file’s When Finished setting and select Loop if you want that clip to restart.
- The video plays but YouTube does not receive a stream: check the selected YouTube destination in Output Settings, the event/connection setup, and YouTube’s current encoder instructions.
- There is no sound or the picture is wrong: preview the source and verify its audio and framing before starting the broadcast; a successful file import alone does not confirm the finished output.
- You are trying to feed a recording through Larix: the reviewed official instructions explain live mobile capture and YouTube publishing, not local file playback. Use Wirecast’s documented media-file workflow for this task, or use a cloud service designed to loop uploaded video.
Verdict
Choose Wirecast if you need the documented desktop workflow for a local prerecorded clip, a Loop end behavior, and YouTube output. Choose Larix for its documented phone-camera live-streaming workflow. If the requirement is unattended playback without keeping a computer on, StreamNeo is the cloud option described above.
