Yes—a large 4K TV can work well as a PC display, especially for gaming, but the right choice depends on the exact screen size and model. The 2025 LG OLED C5, LG OLED G5, and Samsung OLED S90F/S95F families have relevant high-refresh gaming features. They are not interchangeable: refresh-rate support varies by model and size, and the available independent office-use testing covers the 42-inch LG C5 rather than every TV in these families.
Which large 4K TVs are worth considering for a PC?
These models are candidates, not a comprehensive ranking of every large television. Compare the exact size and SKU you plan to buy: a product-family maximum does not establish that every size supports the same PC signal.

| TV family | PC-relevant specifications in the cited sources | What to verify or consider |
|---|---|---|
| LG OLED evo C5 (2025) | LG lists four HDMI 2.1 ports, up to 48 Gbps bandwidth, and VRR up to 144Hz with a compatible PC graphics card. RTINGS tested the 42-inch model and reports 4K at 144Hz, HDMI 2.1, VRR, and low input lag in Game Mode. LG C5 specifications; RTINGS 42-inch C5 review | RTINGS found the reviewed set less suited to office use than smaller 4K displays because text looked less sharp; it also noted limited stand ergonomics, no PC-usable USB hub, and burn-in risk. Those findings are for the reviewed 42-inch version, not every C5 size. |
| LG OLED evo G5 (2025) | LG lists VRR up to 165Hz with a compatible PC graphics card and contrasts this with the C5’s 144Hz maximum. LG G5 specifications | That higher stated ceiling does not establish better office performance. Check the exact size and SKU; the cited sources do not provide independent office or text testing for the G5. |
| Samsung OLED S90F / S95F (2025) | Samsung lists 144Hz for the US S90F product line. Its gaming-TV guide describes 4K 240Hz, 165Hz, or 144Hz capabilities across its range, and identifies four HDMI 2.1 ports for S95F. It also lists low input lag and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Samsung gaming TV guide; Samsung S90F US product page | The 240Hz/165Hz/144Hz figures apply across Samsung’s range, not to every model. Confirm the refresh rate and ports for the precise diagonal and SKU. The cited sources do not provide independent office or text testing for these families. |
Can a 4K TV work as a computer monitor?
Yes. A TV with a suitable HDMI input can display a PC’s output, and these candidate models offer gaming-focused features such as high refresh rates and VRR. For a gaming setup, check three things together: the TV’s supported signal on the input you will use, the graphics card’s output capability, and the cable’s ability to carry that signal reliably. A listed maximum refresh rate is conditional, not a guarantee that every PC or connection will reach it.
LG explicitly requires a compatible PC graphics card for the C5’s 144Hz and G5’s 165Hz modes. Its C5 page lists four HDMI 2.1 ports rated up to 48 Gbps; that specification does not mean you need to replace a cable that already works reliably at your intended resolution and refresh rate. Will text look as sharp as it does on a monitor?
Not necessarily. Resolution alone does not determine how crisp text appears: screen size and pixel density matter too. In RTINGS’ review of the 42-inch C5, text looked less sharp than on smaller 4K displays, and the set was rated mediocre for office use. That is a finding about the reviewed model, not a universal verdict on every large 4K TV. RTINGS 42-inch C5 review
Before buying for substantial work, preview the screen at your own desk distance if possible. Check the text sizes and scaling you expect to use, along with the apps and window layouts you rely on. There is no single viewing-distance threshold established by the cited testing that guarantees comfortable text for every user.

Can a TV’s refresh rate and gaming features help with PC play?
They can, provided the PC and connection support the same mode. VRR (variable refresh rate) synchronizes the display’s refresh with a game’s output; LG explains that unsynchronized rates can produce tearing or stutter. Input lag is the delay between an action, such as a button press, and its visible result. LG describes both features in its TV gaming guide.

Is OLED burn-in a concern for desktop use?
It is a risk to weigh if your routine leaves the same elements on screen for long periods—for example, a taskbar, fixed application panels, or repeated window layouts. RTINGS flags burn-in risk for the C5 in its office and editing assessments. The cited review does not quantify the likelihood for all users, so this should not be read as a prediction that every OLED used with a PC will develop burn-in. RTINGS 42-inch C5 review

A large screen needs appropriate placement, viewing height, and space. In its C5 review, RTINGS says the set reduces glare well and suits moderate lighting, but cannot overcome intense glare. It also notes that the reviewed TV lacks the ergonomic adjustments expected of a monitor stand. RTINGS 42-inch C5 review

How should you choose between these TV families?
- For gaming first: compare the exact SKU’s supported 4K refresh rates, HDMI inputs, VRR behavior, and low-latency modes with your graphics card’s capabilities.
- For office work first: prioritize text comfort at your desk distance, screen scaling, room reflections, and whether the stand or mount puts the screen at a comfortable height.
- For mixed use: balance gaming features against the amount of static desktop content you keep onscreen and the practicalities of placing a large panel at your desk.
- Before purchase: confirm the full model number, diagonal, regional SKU, and input-specific signal support. Do not assume a family-wide headline refresh rate applies to your particular set.
