To cancel a Kraken Futures order, open Open Orders for regular limit orders or Conditional Orders for stop-loss and take-profit orders, then select the cancel control beside the order. Canceling removes only the unfilled remainder; contracts that already filled are not reversed. If cancellation is unavailable, check the trading mode and the order’s current state before retrying.
How do I cancel an open Kraken Futures order?
Kraken’s single-collateral derivatives interface documents cancellation for unfilled and partially filled open orders. The exact buttons can change as the product interface evolves, so verify the order details and status shown in your account.

- Open the derivatives trading screen and locate the order list.
- For a regular limit order, select Open Orders. For a stop-loss or take-profit order that has not triggered, select Conditional Orders.
- Find the order by contract, side, size, price and order ID. Use the cancel control on that order’s row.
- Refresh or recheck the order state. Confirm whether the order is canceled, still open, partially filled or fully filled.
The interface also provides Cancel All for multiple displayed open orders. Use it only when you intend to remove every applicable open order in that view; it is not a selective cancellation tool. A cancel request cannot undo contracts that have already executed. If an order was partially filled, cancellation removes the remaining quantity while the filled contracts remain part of the position or settlement record.

Kraken documents editing an unfilled or partially filled open order by changing its price or quantity. Changing the order type or trigger signal is a different operation: cancel the existing order and submit a new one with the desired type or trigger.

- Open Open Orders or Conditional Orders, depending on the order.
- Select the order’s edit control and change the permitted price or quantity fields.
- Submit the modification and inspect the resulting status rather than assuming the edit was accepted unchanged.
An edit can alter execution behavior. A new price may cross the market and execute immediately, or it may be rejected by a price or margin check. Treat an edit as a new instruction to the matching engine, not as harmless metadata.
Does canceling an order reverse a fill?
No. Cancellation applies only to quantity that has not executed. For example, if a 10-contract order fills 4 contracts and you cancel it, the four filled contracts are not rolled back; only the six-contract remainder is removed. Check fills and order history to establish exactly what executed before deciding whether another order is needed.
Why was my market order only partially filled?
A market order seeks immediate execution against available liquidity and can trade through several incremental prices. Kraken states that market matching is limited by a 1% collar from the best available price: it will not match above the best ask by more than 1% or below the best bid by more than 1%. If insufficient quantity is available within that boundary, the order can be partially filled or not filled, and the unfilled remainder is canceled instead of resting on the order book. This is execution protection, not a guaranteed fill price.

Kraken’s order-type documentation, updated October 1, 2026, describes this rule at Order types in Derivatives trading. A partial fill therefore does not by itself indicate a platform fault. Compare the filled quantity, the execution prices and the remaining status in your fills and order history.

Market orders versus limit orders

Kraken also states that margin is required when a limit order is placed. Open limit orders can be canceled automatically if portfolio value falls below the initial-margin requirement. That explains some automatic cancellations, but it is not a list of every possible rejection or cancellation cause.
Why did my post-only order get canceled?
Post-only (also called maker-only) means the limit order must not execute immediately. If its price would match an order already resting on the opposite side, Kraken rejects and cancels it rather than allowing it to take liquidity. The derivatives error reference identifies this condition as POST_WOULD_EXECUTE.
To place a post-only order successfully, choose a price that would rest on the book at the moment the order is received. Because the order book can change between submitting and matching, a price that appeared passive can still be deemed immediately executable and canceled. Check the resulting status and error text instead of repeatedly submitting the same price.
What does immediate-or-cancel (IOC) do?
An IOC order attempts to execute immediately for the quantity available at acceptable prices. Kraken’s documented wording is: “An immediate-or-cancel order will execute at the price and quantity available – the remainder of the order will be cancelled and will not enter the book.” If no qualifying quantity is available, the order can be rejected or canceled immediately; the error reference calls the attempted resting condition IOC_WOULD_ENTER_BOOK.

How do reduce-only, stop and bracket instructions affect cancellation?
Reduce-only
A reduce-only order can only reduce an existing position. Kraken says an oversized reduce-only order can be automatically reduced to the open position size. If the order would increase exposure, the documented error is VIOLATES_REDUCE_ONLY. The exact acceptance behavior can differ between ordinary orders and trigger orders, so inspect the order type and current position rather than assuming every reduce-only instruction behaves identically.
Stop-loss and take-profit triggers
Untriggered stop and trigger orders are not shown in the normal order book. They appear under Conditional Orders and become active only when their trigger condition is reached. After triggering, normal margin and price-collar checks can apply; a triggered order can be rejected if it fails a required check. Cancel an untriggered conditional order from its conditional-order row.
Paired stop-loss and take-profit orders
For a bracket or OCO arrangement, Kraken states that when either trigger fires, the other order is automatically canceled. Seeing one leg disappear after the other triggers is therefore expected behavior, not necessarily an account error. Kraken describes this behavior in its Derivatives order types documentation.

Why did editing an order change its queue position?
Kraken documents price-time priority behavior for edits:
- Reducing the order quantity keeps the order in its existing queue position.
- Changing the price sends the order to the back of the relevant price level’s queue.
- Increasing the quantity also sends the order to the back of the queue.
A price change can additionally cause immediate execution or rejection, depending on the spread, mark price, margin and order flags. If preserving queue priority matters to your strategy, a size reduction is treated differently from a price change or size increase under the documented behavior.

In Cancel Only, pending orders can be canceled but new orders cannot be placed and matching does not occur. In Maintenance, both cancellation and new order entry are blocked. This distinction explains why a cancel button may work in one restricted mode but not another.
Kraken may expose the current mode through REST SystemStatus, WebSocket status messages, the status API, its status page, trading pages and the Kraken Pro mobile app. Check a current status source before repeatedly retrying an unavailable action. The official mode definitions are at What are the possible trading modes?.
What does “order for cancellation not found” mean?
The error code ORDER_FOR_CANCELLATION_NOT_FOUND means Kraken could not find the supplied order ID in that account’s open orders. The message alone does not tell you whether the order filled, was already canceled, expired, was replaced by an edit, or changed state for another reason.
- Refresh Open Orders and search for the exact order ID.
- Check Fills and Order History for executions or a completed cancellation.
- Confirm that you are viewing the correct derivatives account, contract and environment.
- Compare the current quantity and status with the order ID you attempted to cancel.
- Only retry a cancellation after confirming that the order is still open.
Kraken’s official Derivatives Trading Interface Error Messages reference defines this code along with POST_WOULD_EXECUTE, IOC_WOULD_ENTER_BOOK and VIOLATES_REDUCE_ONLY.
Why might an order be rejected or canceled automatically?
Several documented rules can produce a result that looks like an unexplained cancellation:
- A market order can run out of qualifying liquidity inside the 1% collar; the remainder is canceled.
- A post-only order that would execute immediately is rejected and canceled.
- An IOC order’s unfilled remainder is canceled rather than placed on the book.
- A limit price crossing the spread outside the 20% mark-price collar is rejected.
- A reduce-only instruction that would increase or exceed the permitted position can be rejected or reduced.
- A triggered stop order can fail a margin or price-collar check.
- An open limit order can be canceled if portfolio value falls below the initial-margin requirement.
- In an OCO bracket, triggering one leg automatically cancels the other.
- Maintenance mode blocks cancellation and order entry altogether.
These rules do not cover every possible account, connectivity or compliance condition. Use the order status, error code, fills and history together rather than inferring a cause from disappearance alone.
A practical diagnostic checklist
- Identify the order class: regular open order, conditional trigger, market, limit, post-only, IOC or reduce-only.
- Locate the correct list: Open Orders for regular orders; Conditional Orders for untriggered stop-loss and take-profit instructions.
- Check the state: open, partially filled, filled, canceled, rejected or expired.
- Read the order flags: post-only, IOC, reduce-only and bracket/OCO behavior can each explain automatic cancellation.
- Review fills before retrying: cancellation never reverses executed contracts.
- Check the trading mode: Cancel Only permits cancellation; Maintenance does not.
- Match the exact order ID: an ID missing from open orders may already have changed state.
- Use the current status channel: platform-wide restrictions can affect every order on the contract.

Interface labels and derivatives rules can change. For the documented behavior, consult Kraken’s current pages for Trading Single-Collateral Derivatives (cancellation and editing), Order types in Derivatives trading (execution, collars and flags), and the trading-mode and error-reference pages linked above. Your account’s live order state and the platform’s live mode take precedence over a general explanation.
