No independent performance result is publicly readable for this model, so this page cannot give a verdict on how well it dries a room. What follows sets out Kogan’s published figures, the conditions attached to them, and the checks to make before you buy or run the unit.
What Kogan claims for the KASMDHM20FA
Kogan’s user guide for the KASMDHM20FA is the most detailed primary source available. It lists the following manufacturer-stated figures. None of them are independent measurements.

| Item | Kogan-stated figure | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Claimed extraction capacity | 20 L/day at 30°C and 80% relative humidity | A rating under a warm, humid test condition. It is not a guarantee of 20 litres per day in every home. |
| Water tank | 6.5 L | Nominal capacity. The tank fills well before 20 litres could be collected in a day, so emptying or a drain setup matters. |
| Maximum input power | 420 W | Maximum rated input, not measured consumption under typical use. |
| Maximum current | 1.91 A | Manufacturer specification. |
| Supply | 220–240 V, 50 Hz | Applies to the market the guide covers. Confirm the mains supply in your region before buying. |
| Operating room temperature | 5–32°C | The range in which Kogan says the unit operates. |
| Net weight | 14.5 kg | Manufacturer figure. Plan for a two-hand carry when the tank is full. |
| Dimensions | 340 × 240 × 570 mm | Width × depth × height as printed in the guide. |
| Refrigerant | R290, 60 g | Manufacturer specification. Kogan’s guide does not compare this with other refrigerants. |
| Fuse | AC 250 V, 3.15 A | Technical specification. It is not a replacement-part recommendation for owners. |
What 20 L/day means in practice
The capacity figure is only comparable with other dehumidifier ratings if the test conditions match. Kogan’s 20 L/day is stated at 30°C and 80% relative humidity, which is a hot, damp setting. Most homes running a dehumidifier sit at lower temperatures and humidity levels, and extraction generally falls as the air gets drier or cooler. Kogan’s guide does not publish extraction figures at other conditions, so the real daily output in your room is unknown until you measure it yourself.
The 6.5 L tank is the practical limit on unattended operation. If the unit were pulling water at anything close to its rated output, the tank would fill in a fraction of a day. Unless you use a continuous-drain arrangement, plan to empty the tank regularly. Kogan’s guide refers to a drain option, but the accessible sources do not confirm which hose or fitting applies to this model or whether one is included. Check the full guide and the parts listing before you rely on continuous drainage.

- CORDLESS MOISTURE CONTROL FOR GUN SAFES — Designed for confined spaces up to 20L, this cordless gun safe dehumidifier helps maintain below 60% RH for up to 4 weeks without an outlet, batteries, or cords during use. Compact moisture control for gun safes and enclosed gear storage.
- RESET IN JUST 9 MINUTES — When saturated, regenerate the reusable moisture-absorbing core in a microwave using Defrost Mode at 200–300W for 9 minutes. No hours-long plug-in recharge—follow the regeneration instructions, allow the unit to cool, then put it back to work.
- SEE WHEN IT'S TIME TO RESET — The color-changing indicator shows when the safe dehumidifier is saturated and ready for regeneration. Check its status at a glance, so you know when your reusable moisture absorber needs attention without relying on guesswork.
- RUGGED TACTICAL PROTECTIVE DESIGN — A patented reusable solid core sits inside a protective housing with a tactical-inspired profile designed to look at home alongside firearms and gear. Ranger Green and SWAT Black options create a purpose-built alternative to loose desiccant packets.

Regenerate when indicated, return it to your gear, and keep moisture control simple without disposable packets or a permanent power source.
Room size: no rating is established
Kogan’s published material, as accessible to this review, does not give a recommended room size in square metres or cubic metres. CHOICE’s public product listing also records recommended room size as “Not stated”. Without a stated coverage figure, you cannot match the unit to a room by size alone. Use the 20 L/day rating only as a capacity figure under the stated test conditions, and treat room suitability as an open question to test in your own space.
Independent evidence: what is and is not public
CHOICE’s public listing for the Kogan SmarterHome 20L Dehumidifier KASMDHM20FA shows the following: medium size, a claimed 20 L/day rate, a claimed 5–32°C range, two fan speeds, two carry handles, and no stated recommended room size. CHOICE’s “cost to remove 10 L of water” result and its extraction test detail are visible only to members. The public listing therefore confirms that CHOICE has listed the product and reproduces Kogan’s figures. It does not provide a readable test outcome, and no conclusions should be attributed to CHOICE beyond what the public page shows.
Some points cannot be checked from the sources available for this article. These include measured noise, measured energy use, verified room coverage, and warranty terms. If any of these matter to your decision, obtain them from Kogan or from an independent test report before buying.

Kogan states an operating room temperature of 5–32°C. That range is the important limit for cool spaces. A room that regularly drops below 5°C, such as an unheated garage or a rarely used holiday room in winter, falls outside the stated operating range, and extraction at lower temperatures is not something Kogan’s guide quantifies. A room that stays within the range and has a persistent moisture problem, such as a laundry area or a bedroom with poor ventilation, is the scenario the specification fits most directly.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Routine care and filter cleaning
Kogan’s guide describes cleaning the filters as a routine task. Follow the guide’s own removal sequence, because the unit’s layout is not reproduced here.
- Switch the unit off and make sure the tank is empty before you handle the filters.
- Remove the filters following the sequence shown in Kogan’s user guide.
- For routine dust, vacuum the filters or tap them lightly to dislodge loose material.
- If the filters are heavily soiled, wash them in water with a neutral detergent, rinse thoroughly, and let them dry completely before refitting. Do not refit damp filters.
- Refit the filters in the same orientation you removed them, then check that the tank is seated correctly.
Do not disassemble the unit, repair it, or replace parts beyond what the guide describes.
Troubleshooting poor operation
The guide points to a short list of checks when the unit performs poorly:
- Confirm the plug is fully inserted and the outlet is supplying power.
- Check that the tank is correctly positioned and not full.
- Inspect the filters for dust or blockage and clean them as described above.
- Make sure the air openings are not blocked by furniture, curtains or walls.
If the unit still malfunctions, the guide says to stop using it and contact Kogan support rather than attempting further repairs.
Finding the user guide
Kogan’s Help Centre article “How To Find Your Product’s User Guide” explains that buyers can find guides in their order history for Kogan-branded or exclusive-brand products. Purchases made through Marketplace sellers may require contacting the seller for the guide. If you cannot locate the PDF, use that route before troubleshooting, since the specification and filter details above depend on the correct model guide.
Buying checks before you order
Prices on Kogan’s category pages change, and display prices differ between category listings. Before buying, confirm the exact model code KASMDHM20FA on the product page, the market it is sold in, the current price and stock, and whether the supply voltage matches your mains.
When comparing it with other dehumidifiers, check these seven points against published data rather than marketing claims:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Extraction measured under comparable temperature and humidity conditions.
- Operating temperature range, especially if the room is cool.
- Tank capacity and whether a verified continuous-drain option exists.
- Measured energy use and noise level.
- Dimensions, weight and ease of moving the unit.
- Controls, timer and any laundry or drying mode.
- Warranty and service arrangements in your country.
Without independent figures for these points, no model can be declared the better choice on this evidence alone.
