Compare tools using your real contact count and sending volume, then confirm that the replacement can use your store data and reproduce the workflows you rely on.
How to choose a Klaviyo alternative
Start with the work the platform must do—not a vendor’s overall ranking. Shopify’s guide notes that there is no single best email marketing tool for every business; the fit depends on list size, the existing software stack, budget, and essential features. Shopify’s guide to email marketing software describes the core job as building a subscriber list, segmenting it, sending campaigns, and tracking performance.

- Store data: Check that the platform supports your ecommerce system and can access the customer, order, and product information needed for your campaigns.
- Workflows: List the automations you depend on, such as welcome messages, abandoned-cart emails, post-purchase follow-ups, winback campaigns, loyalty reminders, and back-in-stock notices.
- Channels: Decide whether you need email alone or also SMS and web push. Verify that the specific workflows you want work on the plan you would buy.
- Pricing basis: Work out the cost at your current contact count and send volume, and consider how it changes as either grows. A contact-based plan and a volume-based plan are not directly comparable from their starting prices.
- Team capacity: Account for the time and expertise required to rebuild automations, maintain segments, and operate extra tools such as a CRM or website builder.
Before switching, map each important workflow from trigger to message to audience. Then confirm that a prospective platform can recreate it using the data your store actually provides. An integration listing alone does not establish that every event, field, or automation is supported.

Which alternatives fit different needs?
These options address different priorities rather than offering interchangeable versions of the same product. The descriptions below draw on Shopify’s guide and vendor-authored comparison material; they are starting points for a shortlist, not independent product tests.
#1 Best Overall
For store-aware campaigns and multiple channels
Look for platforms that offer prebuilt automations, a drag-and-drop email editor, dynamic coupons, product selection, pop-ups, web push, and audience segmentation for SMS. Validate the specific store events and workflows your business needs.
For email-volume pricing and a broader marketing toolkit
Brevo may be worth considering if a volume-based email model and adjacent tools such as CRM matter more than paying primarily according to stored contacts. Shopify describes Brevo as including a native CRM, transactional email automation, predictive sending, signup forms, unlimited subscribers, and live chat. “Unlimited subscribers” does not mean unlimited sending; check the plan’s actual send allowance and feature gates.
Rank #2
For automation alongside CRM
ActiveCampaign is a candidate when automation and CRM are both important. The company describes its product as unifying CRM and cross-channel messaging in one system. That is vendor language, not independent proof that it will replace every ecommerce workflow or CRM function you use. Its comparison guide said its details were accurate as of March 2026, so confirm current capabilities and prices directly.
For campaigns plus a website
MailerLite may suit a smaller operation that values website-building and general marketing campaigns more than extensive ecommerce-specific automation. Shopify’s guide lists a Shopify integration and a free tier, but limits and app details can change; confirm that the current plan supports your audience size, sending cadence, and required store data.
Rank #3
For campaigns managed inside Shopify
Shopify Messaging is a relevant option if you want to create, send, and track email and SMS campaigns from Shopify Admin. Shopify’s May 30, 2026 guide reports a free monthly email allowance followed by a charge per 1,000 emails. Check current terms, available features, and whether it can reproduce the automations your store needs before treating it as a full replacement.
For a wider set of marketing tools
Mailchimp is another option to assess if you want tools beyond email. Shopify describes its offering as including email, SMS, landing pages, templates, and automations. Verify which features are included in the plan you are considering, along with the current Shopify app details.
Other use cases to investigate
Consider Drip for subscription businesses with high sending needs, HubSpot when a broader CRM ecosystem is important, Privy for list-growth forms, and GetResponse for creator or content monetization. Treat these labels as leads for your own evaluation, not independent verdicts.
How to compare prices without a misleading shortcut
Published starting prices do not reveal what your store will pay for its actual list, sending cadence, channels, and required features. Contact-based and email-volume pricing can diverge as a business grows, while included allowances and plan gates make superficially similar prices non-equivalent.
Best Value
Published comparison figures can offer context, but they are not independently verified checkout quotes. Compared plans may include different features and sending allowances, so check current prices directly with each provider.
| Platform | Reported lowest-tier monthly price at 10,000 contacts | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Drip | $154/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| Brevo | $32/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| ActiveCampaign | $149/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| MailerLite | $89/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| Shopify Messaging | Free | Published comparison; allowance and paid usage terms require confirmation |
| HubSpot | $410/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| Privy | $165/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| GetResponse | $79/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| Mailchimp | $110/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
| Klaviyo | $150/month | Published comparison; verify current pricing directly |
A separate Shopify guide dated May 30, 2026 gives a different kind of snapshot: entry-level prices and free allowances, not a like-for-like comparison at 10,000 contacts. It reports Shopify Messaging at 10,000 free monthly emails before per-1,000-email charges; Klaviyo at up to 250 contacts free, with paid plans from $15/month; MailerLite at up to 500 subscribers and 12,000 monthly emails free, with paid plans from $10/month; Brevo at 500 emails per month free, with plans from $19/month; and Mailchimp paid plans from $13/month. These figures may vary by market, billing cadence, and plan configuration. See Shopify’s guide and confirm the current offer directly with each provider.
For a useful estimate, enter your real contact count and expected monthly sends into each provider’s current pricing flow. Include the channels and features you intend to use, and check what happens when your list or send volume crosses a plan limit. Do not choose on a free allowance or starting price if it excludes a workflow you need.

What to verify before migrating
- Inventory the current setup. Record forms, consent records, segments, templates, integrations, and each active automation. Note its trigger, audience, exclusions, timing, and message sequence.
- Match data requirements. Confirm the new platform receives the relevant customer, product, order, and behavioral events from your store. Ask which fields and events are available and whether any require extra configuration.
- Rebuild and inspect key workflows. Recreate welcome, abandoned-cart, post-purchase, and winback journeys first, then test their triggers and audience rules. Add other store-specific flows, such as back-in-stock or loyalty reminders, if you rely on them.
- Check channel and plan limits. Verify that email, SMS, and web push functions are available where needed, and that the intended plan permits your audience, sending volume, and automation requirements.
- Confirm migration terms directly. Establish what data can be transferred, what must be rebuilt, and what support is included. A vendor’s migration offer is not evidence that every workflow or record will transfer without friction.
- Review the current quote before committing. Confirm billing cadence, market-specific pricing, allowances, and feature gates with the provider; published comparisons can become outdated or use different assumptions.
Common pitfalls when replacing Klaviyo
- Comparing only monthly prices: A lower figure may reflect a smaller allowance, different billing basis, or fewer included features.
- Assuming an integration means equivalent automation: Check that the replacement gets the exact store events and customer data your current journeys use.
- Ignoring channel gaps: A platform that covers email may not provide the SMS or web-push workflows your team expects.
- Choosing more system than the team can maintain: CRM, website, and campaign features are useful only if they fit the team’s day-to-day operating capacity.
- Treating vendor comparisons as neutral tests: Pricing and feature tables published by a platform vendor should be checked against current provider terms, not read as independent rankings.
