The KitchenAid KSB4027 K400 is a capable full-size blender for smoothies, icy drinks, crushed ice and soup. RTINGS found it produced very smooth results with fibrous ingredients and crushed ice effectively, but reported that making nut butter is difficult and cleaning the blades by hand can be tricky. It makes the most sense for everyday blending rather than frequent thick, sticky mixtures.
What the KSB4027 includes
KitchenAid identifies model KSB4027 as the K400 Variable Speed Blender. Its controls include a five-speed dial, pulse function and three preset programs: Ice Crush, Icy Drinks and Smoothie. KitchenAid also describes a ribbed jar, asymmetric blade, Intelli-Speed motor control and Soft Start, which begins more slowly before increasing to the selected speed. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance measurements. KitchenAid’s KSB4027 product page lists the model and its features.
Jar capacity depends on the source and possibly the variant. KitchenAid’s product guide lists the main jar at 56 ounces (1.6 liters), while CHOICE lists a 1.7-liter jug for its KSB4027 product page. Check the capacity and included jar for the exact unit being sold rather than assuming the figures are interchangeable. How well does it blend?
RTINGS’ review, updated December 5, 2022, reports very smooth results with fibrous ingredients, strong ice crushing that produces snow-like ice, and strong soup performance. These are RTINGS’ test findings; they are not results from testing conducted for this article. Smoothies and fibrous ingredients
The reported smoothness with fibrous ingredients is the clearest reason to consider the K400 if your routine includes greens or similarly fibrous smoothie components. The five speed settings and Smoothie preset provide both manual and one-touch ways to run a blend; the existence of a preset alone does not establish a particular result for every recipe.

Ice and soup
RTINGS reports effective ice crushing and strong soup performance, making these more substantiated use cases than thick nut spreads. For hot ingredients, KitchenAid’s guide says to begin at low speed and increase gradually. It also says variable-speed runs stop automatically after three minutes.
Nut butter and other thick mixtures
RTINGS identifies nut-butter preparation as difficult. If thick spreads are a frequent priority, expect this to be a less convenient choice than a blender better suited to dense mixtures; the available findings do not establish that it cannot make nut butter, only that the task is difficult in RTINGS’ testing.

Noise, power and market-specific listing details
CHOICE lists 79 dB noise, 1200 W, a BPA-free plastic jug, metal construction, and dimensions of 40 × 20 × 24 cm for its KSB4027 listing. Its detailed test results are members-only on the page, so these specifications should not be mistaken for a complete independent performance score. The listed price is AUD $549 and the model is marked discontinued on that page; both are specific to CHOICE’s market and may not reflect current availability elsewhere. Cleaning and safe use
Cleaning
RTINGS reports that the blades can be tricky to clean by hand. KitchenAid’s guide recommends using the clean program with the jar half full of warm water and one or two drops of dish soap. It lists the main blender jar and glass jar as dishwasher-safe on the bottom rack; verify care instructions for the specific jar and accessories supplied with your model.

Hot liquids and run time
- Start hot ingredients at low speed, then ramp up gradually, as KitchenAid’s guide advises.
- Do not blend hot liquids in the personal or small-batch jars.
- Variable-speed runs stop automatically after three minutes, according to the guide.

Optional jars and warranty
KitchenAid names a 16-ounce Personal Blender Jar Expansion Pack (KSB2030PJB) and a 6-ounce Small Batch Jar Expansion Pack (KSB2040BBB) as optional accessories. The guide describes the personal jar for individual smoothies and smaller recipes, and the small-batch jar for items such as sauces, dressings, purees and pesto. Neither is essential for every buyer; confirm compatibility, package contents and current availability before purchasing. KitchenAid’s product page and product guide identify these accessories.

The available KSB4027CU manual, marked ©2019, describes a five-year full warranty from purchase for blenders operated in the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada, subject to terms and exclusions. Consider the KSB4027 if you want a versatile countertop blender and value the reported smoothness with fibrous ingredients, ice-crushing ability and soup performance. Look elsewhere if frequent nut-butter making or easy hand-cleaning is central to your routine. Before buying, verify the exact jar capacity and contents, local warranty terms, and current price: the available sources give differing capacity figures, and CHOICE’s price and discontinued status apply only to its market listing.
