If Kiro CLI’s terminal interface gets sluggish during a long session, first identify whether the delay is in the TUI, model responses, approvals, or a separate long-running process. Run Kiro’s diagnostics, inspect logs and session context, then record what changes after a fresh session or restart. A restart has temporarily helped one reporter, but no universal fix for progressive slowdown is confirmed.
First, identify which Kiro experience is slowing down
“Kiro gets slow” can describe different symptoms, and the available reports do not establish one shared cause. A lagging terminal interface is not the same as slow model or network responses, delayed command approvals, or memory growth in a long-running ACP process.

| Reported case | Environment and version | What the reporter described | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kiro CLI TUI, issue #6770 | macOS 26.3; Kiro CLI 1.28.1 | Responsiveness degraded during extended use. The reporter observed high CPU percentages and roughly stable resident memory of 155–162 MB, and said restarting the TUI temporarily restored responsiveness. | The report does not confirm a root cause or permanent fix. Its speculation about rendering or accumulated context is not a verified diagnosis. |
| Kiro for Windows, issue #4834 | Windows; version 0.8.0 | A separate report describes increasingly delayed command approvals after about five hours, followed by an unresponsive window. | This is not evidence that the CLI TUI has the same problem. |
| Kiro CLI ACP mode, issue #10196 | Linux; version 2.6.1 | An open report describes memory growth in a long-running kiro-cli-chat process using ACP/stdio JSON-RPC, including after session deletion. |
This does not establish a fix for the interactive TUI or ordinary CLI sessions. |
These are individual issue reports, not a study measuring how often Kiro slows down. The macOS issue page is shown as closed while also carrying a pending-maintainer-response label; closure alone is not proof that a fix was confirmed.

Run Kiro’s documented checks and inspect its logs
Kiro’s CLI documentation recommends a diagnostic path for setup and persistent problems. These checks can help identify environment or connectivity issues; they do not by themselves diagnose every extended-session slowdown.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Run
kiro-cli doctor. Follow its prompts to check for common issues. - Check connectivity and supported environments. Confirm your network connection and that your operating system and environment are supported by Kiro CLI.
- Inspect the CLI log. The documented default locations are macOS
$TMPDIR/kiro-log/kiro-chat.log, Linux$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/kiro-log/kiro-chat.log, and Windows%TEMP%/kiro-log/logs/kiro-chat.log. TheKIRO_CHAT_LOG_FILEenvironment variable can override the log path. - Keep the exact version and symptom handy. Note whether the problem is TUI rendering, response time, command approval, or a long-running ACP process. If it persists, use
kiro-cli issueto report it.
Check what the active session is carrying
In Kiro CLI chat, /context show displays included files and their share of the context window. If files are no longer relevant, /context remove removes selected context; /context clear clears it. Use /context add to add files when a task needs them. Kiro’s chat documentation distinguishes temporary session context from persistent agent resources.
Kiro documents context-window settings and automatic compaction controls in its settings reference. Context files consume tokens on each request, so reviewing unnecessary material can be useful when requests are burdened by excess context. However, the cited reports do not prove that context accumulation causes progressive TUI lag. Treat context cleanup as session management, not a confirmed cure for interface slowdown.

Use a restart as a test, not a promised fix
In the macOS TUI report, the user said restarting the TUI temporarily restored responsiveness. If you try that, note whether the improvement lasts and whether it returns in the same session or only after extended use. A temporary recovery can help narrow down when the symptom appears, but it is not evidence of a permanent remedy.
Starting a clean task session can also help you check whether the slowdown is tied to the current session’s context. Compare it with the original session rather than assuming the result proves a cause: the reports do not establish that a new session will resolve the issue.

Collect details that make a report actionable
Before reporting a recurring problem, record the conditions and what changed. Keep these observations separate; CPU use, resident memory, and perceived UI delay are different measurements.
- Exact Kiro CLI version and operating system.
- Whether you use the interactive CLI TUI, the Windows desktop app, or ACP mode.
- How long the session or process had been running when the slowdown began.
- Whether the symptom is rendering or input lag, model/network response time, command-approval delay, or a process that keeps growing in memory.
- Context size or included files, if relevant, and whether removing context or opening a clean task session changes the behavior.
- CPU and resident-memory observations, including when you recorded them.
- Whether restarting the TUI or process restores responsiveness, and for how long.
