For a low-pressure start in the original Nintendo Switch game, choose Spring-Breeze mode: Nintendo says Kirby has more health and enemies are easier. Wild mode is the tougher option, with tougher enemies and more rewards. From there, experiment with Copy Abilities, explore each stage for Waddle Dees, and use the town features you unlock to make progress at your own pace.
Which difficulty is best for beginners?
Choose based on how much challenge you want, not on a fear of missing out. Nintendo describes Spring-Breeze mode as having more health and easier enemies, and calls it perfect for beginners. Wild mode makes enemies tougher and offers more rewards. Both are ways to play the game; a first run does not need to start on the harder setting.

How Copy Abilities work—and how to choose one
Kirby can inhale certain enemies to copy their abilities. Nintendo’s examples include Sword, Ice, Drill, and Ranger. Abilities let Kirby attack in different ways and help him explore, so try the options you find instead of looking for one universally best ability. Nintendo’s US game listing describes the original game’s abilities and stage play.

- Exploration: Pay attention to how an ability interacts with obstacles or the space around Kirby.
- Practical choice: Keep the ability that suits the next challenge; there is no need to treat every encounter as a test of a fixed ranking.
The original Nintendo Switch game’s official US listing presents 12 Copy Abilities, and says all 12 can evolve. That count applies to the original game listing, not every edition: current listings identify three additional abilities in the Switch 2 Edition with Star-Crossed World. How to upgrade Copy Abilities
As you rescue Waddle Dees and unlock town features, visit Waddle Dee’s Weapons Shop and bring it blueprints you find. The shop lets you evolve abilities; upgrades are not all available from the very beginning. Nintendo’s developer interview explains: “You can also evolve Kirby’s Copy Abilities in Waddle Dee’s Weapons Shop to change their appearances and power levels.”
Blueprints give exploration a useful payoff, but you do not need to chase every upgrade before continuing through the story. Try an evolved form when one becomes available and see whether its changed power or appearance suits your play style.

Where to find Waddle Dees—and why to look around
Rescuing Waddle Dees helps rebuild Waddle Dee Town, where new features become available. Nintendo names shops, leaderboards, ability evolution, and townsfolk games among the benefits. Waddle Dees are hidden in themed stages, and stage missions give you reasons to search beyond the most direct route.
- Look around rather than heading straight for the stage exit.
- Pay attention to each stage’s missions as you play; they can point you toward things worth investigating.
- Explore at a comfortable pace. Finding Waddle Dees supports town progression, but you do not have to clear every optional challenge at once.
Producer Shinya Kumazaki described completing the town as an optional extra challenge for experienced players: “For experienced players, saving all the Waddle Dees and completing the town serves as an additional challenge.” That makes a useful distinction for newcomers: rescuing Waddle Dees unlocks features, while finding them all is a bigger completion goal.

No. Treasure Road offers optional challenges that reward Rare Stones, according to Nintendo. Try one when you want a focused challenge or want to work toward an ability evolution; it is not a requirement for a beginner to take on every route immediately.

Yes. The original game supports local co-op on one system, with a second player controlling Bandana Waddle Dee. The roles differ: Kirby can inhale enemies and copy abilities, while Bandana Waddle Dee fights with a spear. Nintendo notes that additional accessories may be required and sold separately, so check your controllers before arranging a session. Nintendo’s product page has the game’s multiplayer details.
