Kingdom Hearts is an action role-playing series from Square Enix made in collaboration with Disney. It follows Sora, a Keyblade wielder who journeys through Disney worlds with Donald Duck and Goofy. For newcomers looking for one place to begin, Square Enix’s KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] is the most straightforward publisher-supported package: it groups the early saga, later lead-in stories and KINGDOM HEARTS III with its Re Mind DLC.
What is Kingdom Hearts?
Square Enix describes KINGDOM HEARTS as an action role-playing game series developed and published by the company in collaboration with Disney, under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura. Its central character, Sora, wields a Keyblade and travels between Disney worlds with Donald and Goofy to confront the Heartless and restore peace. Square Enix sums up the series as “the story of Light overcoming Darkness with the power of Friendship.”

The first game was released in March 2002. By the end of June 2025, Square Enix Holdings reported more than 38 million package shipments and digital sales worldwide; that is a publisher-reported combined figure, not a count of copies sold directly to players or a 2026 total.
Where should a newcomer start?
For the broadest current package from the publisher, start with KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]. It brings together three grouped collections and reaches through KINGDOM HEARTS III and its Re Mind DLC. The bundle’s organization is not a simple chronological play order: the first collection alone combines games and HD cutscene compilations. If you want a straightforward approach, playing the included games in release order is a reasonable editorial recommendation, rather than a mandatory order established by Square Enix.
#1 Best Overall
- KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] Amazon Exclusive Edition includes a double-sided poster.
- A value packed bundle featuring three collections: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC).
- This product is also included in other bundle sets. Please ensure you do not purchase the same content more than once.
- Platform-exclusive Keyblade "Midnight Blue" included with purchase!
- To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection and additional data download are required.
What is included in Collection [I~III]?
| Collection | Contents | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- | The first six stories, grouped in the collection | Two entries are HD cutscene compilations, not fully playable games. The collection should not be described as six playable games. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue | Dream Drop Distance HD, the χ Back Cover movie and 0.2 Birth by Sleep | Includes a movie alongside game content. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind | KINGDOM HEARTS III and the Re Mind DLC | Includes the base game and its DLC. |
The two HD cutscene compilations are video presentations of story material rather than playable game entries. That distinction matters if you are choosing the collection specifically to play every installment: the package offers a broad way to follow the saga, but not every listed component is an interactive game.
