Some users reported trouble accessing Google Gemini on October 8, 2026, but Google had not posted a matching incident on its Workspace Status Dashboard. A contemporaneous report cited rising third-party outage reports that later declined; by 23:09 UTC, Google’s dashboard showed “No incidents.” That is a timestamped status snapshot, not proof that every user’s access was restored or that no disruption occurred.

Gemini outage updates for October 8

  • 16:20 UTC: Tom’s Guide opened its live report with about 1,700 Downdetector reports.
  • 16:27 UTC: The report said Google’s Gemini status page showed “All systems operational” as user reports rose.
  • 16:36 UTC: Tom’s Guide cited more than 5,000 Downdetector reports. These were reports submitted to a third-party service, not a verified count of affected Gemini users.
  • 16:40–16:47 UTC: The live report relayed user accounts of errors 1155 (“Something went wrong”) and 13. The code 13 explanation was not independently confirmed by Google.
  • 16:58–17:09 UTC: Tom’s Guide noted that reports were declining and that one editor could access Gemini.
  • 17:26 UTC: The report cited 355 Downdetector reports, down from a little over 4,000 about an hour earlier, and said the outage appeared to be over. The same report had cited more than 5,000 earlier, so these snapshots should not be treated as a single, consistently measured peak.
  • 23:09 UTC: Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard showed “No incidents.”

These updates describe user reports and a later official status snapshot—not a Google-confirmed October 8 incident. The available information does not establish the cause, how many customers were affected, which regions were involved, or the precise time service recovered. Tom’s Guide’s live report is the source for the contemporaneous report-count snapshots.

Is Gemini down right now?

Check Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard, which includes Gemini among its monitored services. Its status reflects what Google is reporting at the time you check; a “No incidents” message does not rule out an earlier disruption or a problem affecting an individual user.

For an additional signal, Downdetector can show whether other people are submitting reports, but those submissions are not a verified tally of affected customers. Compare the time of any third-party spike with Google’s posted status rather than treating either signal alone as a complete account.

How to get Gemini outage alerts

Google recommends using the Workspace Status Dashboard to check current and past service status. You can subscribe to its RSS feed for alerts when dashboard updates are published. Google also documents JSON incident history and outage alerts that Workspace administrators can configure. Details are in Google’s Workspace Status Dashboard help page.

A separate Gemini incident Google recorded in September

Google’s incident history lists a September 11, 2026 issue involving intermittent elevated errors for a subset of Gemini 3.1 Pro users on Gemini Web and the Gemini app. Google attributed that separate incident to a recent rollout and recorded its duration as 7 hours and 22 minutes. It was mitigated with a code change. This incident does not establish the cause of user reports on October 8. See Google’s incident history.
