How big is Kingdom Hearts 2.8 on Switch 2?
Nintendo’s US product listing estimates the standalone KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue digital release at 26.9 GB (Nintendo US listing). Nintendo Australia lists an estimate of 26.8 GB (Nintendo Australia listing).

These are storefront download estimates, not a confirmed measurement of the final installed footprint. Nintendo’s US page cautions: “It’s possible that information related to the game, including ratings and download size, may not be finalized at time of preorder.” Check the Nintendo eShop listing for your region shortly before downloading.

For the new standalone Switch 2 digital release, use the estimate shown in your regional store as a planning figure and check that the console has enough available storage. The US listing identifies the product as digital but does not recommend a particular expansion card or state an additional required reserve.

Do not confuse it with the Switch Cloud Version
The earlier Nintendo Switch KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Cloud Version is a separate product. Nintendo lists its client download at 77 MB and says an internet connection is required to play. That small download is the streamed version’s client size, not the native Switch 2 release’s estimated 26.9 GB download. Nintendo says the Cloud Version is supported on Switch 2 and behaves consistently with Nintendo Switch (Nintendo Cloud Version listing).

Can I change performance settings on Switch 2?
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld modes for the Switch 2 release. The official product pages reviewed do not specify user-adjustable resolution, frame-rate, graphics-quality, or performance-mode options. They also do not publish tested resolution or frame-rate results. In practical terms, the official listing confirms the play modes, but it does not establish a performance/quality toggle or a particular performance outcome.

What’s included in HD 2.8?
Nintendo and SQUARE ENIX describe three experiences in the collection (SQUARE ENIX collection page):
- KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD, described by Nintendo as a full-HD remaster.
- KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover, an HD movie about the Foretellers.
- KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –, a short episode connecting to KINGDOM HEARTS III.
The title is positioned as leading into KINGDOM HEARTS III. Nintendo lists SQUARE ENIX as both publisher and developer, single-system play, TV/tabletop/handheld modes, and English (US), French, German, Italian, and Spanish language support.

Is there a physical Switch 2 edition?
Nintendo’s US listing identifies the standalone Switch 2 release as digital. SQUARE ENIX also lists a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]. That is a larger bundle containing HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind—not a standalone physical edition of HD 2.8. SQUARE ENIX says the collection’s components are also available individually; check the relevant regional store for current format availability.
Release date and regional listings
Nintendo US lists October 8, 2026, as the release date. The Nintendo Australia page displays August 10, 2026, and a 26.8 GB estimate. The official pages reviewed therefore differ on the displayed date, and they do not explain why. If you are outside the US, use your regional Nintendo listing for the date, availability, and current download estimate.

Can existing owners get a discount?
SQUARE ENIX says owners of certain prior digital versions of HD 2.8 may qualify for a 50% discount on the Switch 2 digital version. The listed qualifying versions include Nintendo Switch Cloud Version, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Eligibility may depend on the qualifying purchase and account or regional terms, so confirm the current offer on the publisher and storefront pages before buying.
