Kindle storage and included features depend on the model, edition, and marketplace. Amazon lists 16 GB of internal storage with about 11.5 GB available on the 2024 Kindle and standard 2024 Paperwhite; the 2024 Paperwhite Signature Edition has 32 GB internal storage, about 25 GB available, and wireless charging. “With ads” refers to a device configuration that can show sponsored screensavers on the lock and home screens—not a feature shared by every Kindle.
How much storage does a Kindle have?
Amazon’s figures distinguish a device’s stated internal capacity from the approximate amount available for your own content. The difference matters: the advertised capacity is not all free space for books, documents, and other files.
| Model | Internal storage | Approx. user-available storage | Other listed detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle (11th Generation, 2024) | 16 GB | About 11.5 GB | — |
| Kindle Paperwhite (12th Generation, 2024) | 16 GB | About 11.5 GB | — |
| Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition (12th Generation, 2024) | 32 GB | About 25 GB | Wireless charging |
These are model specifications on Amazon’s Kindle identification page, not estimates of how many books fit. File sizes and other stored content vary, so a book count cannot be inferred reliably from these capacities. Amazon lists additional generations and models, including Colorsoft and Scribe devices; check the exact model entry rather than applying a figure from one Kindle to another.

What does “with ads” mean on a Kindle?
Amazon says that when a device includes ads, “sponsored screensavers appear on your device’s lock and home screens.” Sponsored placements are labeled on the home screen. Amazon also says personalized advertising lets it offer some device models at a subsidized price. These statements describe how ad-supported configurations work generally; they do not establish that every model, edition, or marketplace has an ad-supported version.
Amazon’s help page is titled “Learn More About Ads On Kindle and Fire Tablet.” Separately, an Amazon Ads announcement dated April 24, 2026 describes US Kindle lock-screen placements available through Amazon DSP for self-service advertisers promoting ebooks. That is information about how advertisers can buy placements, not a guide to which consumer Kindle listings include ads.
Can I remove ads from my Kindle?
Amazon documents a paid removal option for eligible devices. Its help page says owners can unsubscribe from sponsored screensavers with a one-time charge. The amount is not established as a universal fee: Amazon says the price appears in the confirmation flow before the owner completes the change.
- Open Amazon’s “Remove Ads from Your Kindle E-Reader or Fire Tablet” help page and follow its link to Manage Your Devices.
- Select the Kindle you want to update.
- Under Special Offers, choose Remove offers.
- Review the displayed one-time price in the next window. Confirm only if you want to proceed.
Availability and the displayed price can depend on the device and account. The help flow—not a general price quoted elsewhere—is the relevant place to check the offer for your Kindle.

How to check what a specific Kindle includes
Storage, edition features, and ad status are separate details. Before choosing a Kindle or changing an existing one, verify the configuration in the marketplace where you are buying or using it.
- Identify the generation and edition. “Kindle” alone is not specific enough to establish capacity or features. Compare the exact model name with Amazon’s model-identification page.
- Check both storage figures. Look for internal capacity and Amazon’s approximate user-available amount; do not treat them as interchangeable.
- Read the actual retail listing for ad status. Check whether that exact listing describes ads or offers and whether an ad-free option is shown. Do not assume a configuration from another edition or country applies.
- Check the device account for removal terms. If the Kindle already has offers, use Manage Your Devices to see whether Remove offers is available and what one-time price is displayed.
Amazon cautions that Kindle generations have not all been available in every marketplace. Its identification page and ad-removal instructions therefore do not amount to a complete, current table of ad-supported and ad-free retail configurations by model and country. Verify the listing and account flow for your own marketplace.
