On the Kindle 11th Generation, the power button is on the bottom edge beside the USB-C charging port. Press it briefly to wake the reader or put it to sleep. To turn off the screen, hold the button for 9 seconds and choose Screen Off; to restart an unresponsive Kindle, use Amazon’s separate 40-second hold procedure. Button placement and menus can differ on other Kindle models.
Where is the Kindle power button?
On the Kindle 11th Generation, Amazon’s control diagram places the power button on the bottom edge, next to the USB-C/power port. See Amazon’s 11th-generation Kindle setup and control guide. If your Kindle has a different layout, consult the guide for your specific model rather than assuming the button is in the same place.

Wake your Kindle or put it to sleep
Press the power button briefly once. This wakes a sleeping Kindle or puts it to sleep when you have finished reading. Amazon recommends sleep for conserving battery: Kindle battery-conservation guidance.

For the Kindle 11th Generation, hold the power button for 9 seconds until the Power dialog appears, then select Screen Off. This is Amazon’s documented screen-off procedure for that model; it should not be treated as a universal full-shutdown method for every Kindle. Restart a frozen or slow Kindle
- Keep the Kindle charged while restarting it.
- Hold the power button until the power dialog appears or the screen goes blank.
- Continue holding the button for 40 seconds, then release it.
- Wait a few seconds. The charge indicator should turn back on as the Kindle reboots.
Amazon recommends restarting to address intermittent problems such as a frozen screen or slow performance. Follow the dedicated Kindle restart instructions and its restart troubleshooting guidance.
If the button or Kindle still does not respond
A restart or charging cable cannot be assumed to fix a damaged button or other hardware fault. If the Kindle remains unresponsive or the button appears damaged, contact Amazon Customer Support about service. Match any replacement or compatible charging cable to your Kindle’s port; the 11th-generation model uses USB-C.
