If your iPhone misses deliberate taps, registers one touch more than once, or selects a spot your finger slid past, adjust Touch Accommodations at Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Touch Accommodations. Turn on only the control that matches the problem, then test it with familiar actions. Apple describes the feature as a way to change how iPhone responds to taps, swipes, and touch-and-hold gestures for people with tremors or dexterity and fine-motor-control difficulties: Apple Support’s iPhone User Guide.
How do you turn on Touch Accommodations?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility > Touch > Touch Accommodations.
- Adjust the option related to your difficulty, then turn on Touch Accommodations.
- Try familiar actions, such as tapping an app, selecting a button, and swiping. If ordinary interactions feel delayed or a swipe no longer works as expected, change the relevant setting.
Apple’s iPhone User Guide also offers a Set Up Touch Accommodations flow with onscreen instructions and a personalized list of options. Menu wording may vary with language and software version, so use the closest matching labels on your device.

Which setting matches the touch problem?

How do you make iPhone wait longer before accepting a tap?
Turn on Hold Duration and adjust the time. The touch must remain on the screen for that duration before iPhone accepts it. This can help when a very brief touch is accidental or difficult to control, but it also means touches and swipes that happen within the configured interval can be ignored. Apple notes that a circular timer appears when Hold Duration is set beyond 0.3 seconds.
Start with a small adjustment and test it. If taps feel unresponsive, or swipes begin to fail, reduce the duration or turn the setting off. The right timing depends on your touch pattern; Apple does not prescribe one value for everyone.

Why does iPhone register two taps when you meant one?
Enable Ignore Repeat and set the interval between touches. When multiple touches fall inside that interval, iPhone treats them as one. If separate, intentional taps begin to merge, shorten the interval or disable Ignore Repeat.

- Use Final Touch Location uses the spot where your finger lifts. Try this if the lift-off point is the intended target.
With Final Touch Location, the selected gesture delay defines the time window for the touch. If you wait longer than that delay, iPhone may recognize another gesture, such as a drag, instead. Test both taps and swipes after changing Tap Assistance.
What if swipes become difficult?
Swipe Gestures controls how much movement is needed before iPhone recognizes a swipe. Apple’s Support instructions say this option requires both Hold Duration and Tap Assistance to be enabled; its iPhone User Guide describes enabling it in the Hold Duration or Tap Assistance settings. Follow the labels shown on your iPhone. Because Hold Duration and Tap Assistance can affect which touches and swipes are recognized within their timing windows, retest your usual gestures and tune the settings if needed.

Is Haptic Touch the same as Touch Accommodations?
No. Haptic Touch changes how long a touch-and-hold takes to show options or previews; it is not the control for ordinary slow taps. To adjust it, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch, select Fast or Slow, and test with the image on screen. Apple documents Haptic Touch separately from Touch Accommodations.

If the settings no longer suit your touch pattern, Apple documents ways to recalibrate or reset Touch Accommodations in its iPhone User Guide. If touch gestures remain difficult even after adjusting them, AssistiveTouch is a separate accessibility option: Apple says it can perform actions such as Home, double-tap, scrolling, and multifinger gestures, with or without a compatible adaptive accessory.
