Kick’s VOD chat can drift behind accelerated video because its replay messages may be displayed according to wall-clock time instead of the video’s playback clock. Developer Mateus Bentes says he built a free Chrome extension, VOD Chat Sync for Kick, to schedule messages against the video timeline instead. His measurements and claims describe his own work; they are not independent test results.
Why Kick VOD chat falls behind at faster speeds
In an article published September 28, 2026, Mateus Bentes says he found a mismatch in Kick’s native VOD replay: the site fetched chat in windows tied to video time but displayed messages using wall-clock time. When video playback speeds up, the video can therefore advance faster than the chat display.

Bentes reports that, in his measurement, after 30 seconds of watching at 2x speed, native chat was about 40 seconds behind. That is one author-reported observation, not a platform-wide measurement or an independently replicated result. Bentes describes a video-clock approach. The extension maps a message’s absolute timestamp to the VOD timeline using absoluteTime = vodStartMs + video.currentTime * 1000. It fetches chat in five-second windows roughly 30 seconds ahead, then displays each message when playback reaches its timestamp. On a backward seek or a large jump forward, it resets the visible message list.

Because the video time determines when messages appear, Bentes says the same scheduling model handles 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x playback, as well as pausing and seeking, without separate logic for each speed. The Chrome Web Store listing also advertises synchronization at different speeds, while paused, and after seeking. These are developer and product-listing claims, not independent verification.
He also says the extension listens to video events as well as using timers, since Chrome may throttle timers in background or unfocused tabs. It observes Kick’s single-page-app navigation to clean up when a viewer leaves a VOD, matches the site’s chat appearance, and offers a switch between synchronized chat and the original replay. Bentes reports comparing 54 messages side by side with native chat; that describes his process, not an independent assessment of accuracy.

What the listing says—and what it does not establish
The Chrome Web Store listing identifies the extension as VOD Chat Sync for Kick. When the listing was accessed for the source article, it showed version 0.5.2, an update date of September 27, 2026, and English and Brazilian Portuguese as its languages. Store versions and availability can change, so check the Chrome Web Store listing for current details.

Bentes describes the extension as free and MIT-licensed and links its source repository from his article. The store listing reports the developer’s declaration that the extension does not collect or use data. How this differs from ordinary Kick chat lag
Kick’s Help Center says a small delay between sending a message and seeing it in chat is normal; delays of 30 seconds or more usually indicate a network issue. Its advice for that general chat problem includes checking the connection and refreshing. This guidance concerns ordinary chat delay, not whether VOD replay chat follows accelerated video playback. What to check before relying on it
- Confirm the current extension listing, version, and update date; the version details above are a snapshot, not a guarantee of what is available now.
- Decide whether synchronized replay chat or Kick’s original chat display better suits your viewing, since Bentes says the extension provides a way to switch between them.
- If the page or chat starts misbehaving, use Kick’s private-window and one-extension-at-a-time troubleshooting approach to check for conflicts.
- Do not treat the developer’s privacy declaration, implementation description, or reported message comparison as an independent security or performance test.
A separate Chrome Web Store listing for Kick Augmenter advertises player speed controls and sticky chat pause. Those features alone do not establish that it synchronizes VOD replay chat with the video. See Chrome Web Store listings.
