Tom’s Guide’s October 2, 2026 review listed it at $69 in the US and praised its gaming performance, browser-based customization, and battery life at lower polling rates. The tradeoff is tangible: the reviewer found its smooth shell slippery, quick to show fingerprints, and paired with a stiff scroll wheel.
Check that you’re buying the 8K version
Keychron sells the M2 in 1K, 4K, and 8K polling-rate variants, and the headline specifications differ. The official product listing assigns the 8K model a PixArt 3950 sensor and up to 30,000 DPI; the 1K and 4K versions use a PixArt 3395 sensor. The 8K configuration includes an 8K wireless receiver and offers six polling levels, from 125 Hz to 8,000 Hz, in 2.4 GHz mode. Keychron’s product listing shows variant-dependent pricing, so select the 8K option and check its live price before buying.

The M2 family supports 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired connections. The 8K version uses Bluetooth 5.3. Tom’s Guide lists the reviewed mouse as a six-button, right-handed model measuring 4.78 × 2.63 × 1.6 inches and weighing 1.94 ounces, with a 600mAh rechargeable battery. Those details and the 30,000-DPI and 8,000-Hz maximums describe the 8K review configuration, not every M2 variant.
How it performs, and what the polling numbers mean
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer praised the M2 8K’s gaming performance and browser-based customization. Its maximum polling rate is 8,000 Hz, but that is an option, not a setting every player needs to use all the time. Higher polling can use more battery and system resources; the reviewer suggests lowering the rate outside gaming.

Tom’s Guide’s specification table lists rated battery runtime of 140 hours at 1,000 Hz and 40 hours at 8,000 Hz. These are listed ratings, not a new battery test, and runtime depends on the polling rate selected. If you want the longest listed runtime, 1,000 Hz is the relevant figure; running at the maximum 8,000 Hz carries a substantially shorter rated runtime.
The main compromise is feel, not a missing headline spec
The review’s most notable drawbacks are tactile. The reviewer found the scroll wheel heavy and stiff, including its click. The shell is smooth, uncoated ABS plastic, which felt slippery during testing. Fingerprints became visible on it after about an hour, according to the reviewer—hence the shiny-mark tradeoff in the headline.

The reviewer suggests grip tape as an optional way to address the slippery feel. No particular tape product or compatibility was established, so treat that as a general remedy rather than a confirmed fit recommendation. If you prefer a mouse with texture built into its surface, the review points to the M3 Mini V2 8K and NZXT Lift Elite Wireless as grippier-feeling alternatives in its testing.
