Keeper is a good password manager for people who prioritize security controls and secure sharing, but it is a less compelling choice if you want the lowest price or breach monitoring and expanded file storage included. Its free plan is restricted, paid extras can change the total cost, and independent reviewers have noted occasional autofill quirks. This review reflects Keeper’s September 2026 product context, with information checked through October 7, 2026.
What Keeper does well—and where it costs more
Keeper’s strongest case is its security-focused vault design, wide choice of authentication methods, and sharing features. WIRED praised its sharing system, apps, and security documentation, while also flagging family-plan pricing and paid extras. Those strengths matter most if you need to share records securely or want more control over account access.

The main value caveat is that the free plan is limited and some features are add-ons. Security.org and WIRED describe BreachWatch dark-web monitoring and expanded secure file storage as separate charges. Their published prices are snapshots, not dependable current quotes: check the price and renewal terms for your region before subscribing.

How Keeper protects the vault
Keeper says end-user data is encrypted and decrypted at the device and record level, rather than on Keeper’s servers. Its security documentation describes AES-256 record and folder keys generated on the client device, and a master-password derivation process using PBKDF2 with 1,000,000 iterations. Keeper says the encrypted records can contain logins, attachments, TOTP codes, payment details, URLs, and custom fields. These are the vendor’s published technical descriptions, not an independent verification of its implementation. Keeper security documentation
#1 Best Overall
- Save time with autofill. Automatically save and autofill login credentials, addresses, and payment details. NordPass signs you in and completes online forms with a single click.
- Identify weak or reused passwords. Identify weak, reused, or outdated passwords using the Password Health tool and update them before they become a risk.
- Emergency access for trusted contacts. Grant a trusted person the ability to request access to your vault in case of emergency. Access is only provided after your approval or a defined waiting period.
- Built-in authenticator and MFA support. Generate one-time authentication codes directly in NordPass and strengthen your vault with multi-factor authentication and hardware security keys.
- Access your passwords on any device. Access your passwords anywhere and anytime. Use NordPass across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, or open your vault from almost any browser with the web vault.
Keeper also says it has FIPS 140-3 validation and conducts quarterly penetration testing with external experts. Those statements should be read as vendor claims; the security page is not a substitute for a certification listing or a report detailing a test’s scope. Encryption can protect stored vault contents from some kinds of access, but it does not eliminate risks from a compromised device, phishing, account recovery, or implementation flaws.
Sign-in options and security keys
Keeper documents multifactor authentication, single sign-on, conditional access, FIDO2 WebAuthn hardware security keys, passkeys, biometrics, and its Keeper DNA smartwatch method. For a personal account, a hardware key can be an optional additional sign-in factor. Keeper’s general support for FIDO2/WebAuthn does not establish that every key works on every platform, so confirm current compatibility for your device and operating system before buying one.

- Auto-Fill Feature: Say goodbye to the hassle of manually entering passwords! PasswordPocket automatically fills in your credentials with just a single click.
- Internet-Free Data Protection: Use Bluetooth as the communication medium with your device. Eliminating the need to access the internet and reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

- Offline Account Management: Store up to 1,000 sets of account credentials in PasswordPocket.
- Support for Multiple Platforms: PasswordPocket works seamlessly across multiple platforms, including iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets.
For consumer and family accounts, Keeper describes master-password and biometric authentication. Its security documentation separately describes elliptic-curve encryption for passwordless access by business and enterprise users who sign in with SSO; that capability is not the central consideration for most personal users.

Secure sharing is one of Keeper’s more persuasive features. WIRED highlighted its sharing system, and Security.org describes sharing and encrypted cloud backup as part of the Unlimited plan. If you regularly share credentials with family or colleagues, evaluate how the sharing controls fit your needs rather than judging a password manager only by how many logins it stores.

Tom’s Guide identifies offline access and emergency recovery tools as strengths. It also reports occasional autofill-detection quirks with email fields. That is a practical usability caveat: autofill behavior can vary by site and field, so check important logins after saving them instead of assuming every form will be recognized perfectly.
Free plan and paid extras
Free
Security.org describes the reviewed free option as limited to one mobile device and ten password or passkey records, with no multi-device sync. Tom’s Guide also notes the one-mobile-device restriction. These are details of the reviewed plan, not a promise that limits will remain unchanged.

- Highly secure encryption: the encryption algorithm safely stores all login data with AES 256-bit encryption
- NEW! Directly access your Private Favorites through the browser plugins in Chrome & Firefox
- PicPass (picture passwords), password generator, handy templates, and storage space for secure notes
- Portable version included: use the encrypted password list and portable USB version of Steganos Password Manager 19 on any PC

Unlimited and add-ons
Security.org describes Unlimited as offering unlimited password storage, sharing, and encrypted cloud backup. BreachWatch monitoring and expanded secure file storage are paid additions, according to Security.org and WIRED. Because plan contents, regional prices, discounts, and renewal terms can change, compare the full annual renewal cost—including any add-ons you want—at checkout rather than relying on a dated review price.
What the CHIP result says—and does not say
In a May 26, 2026 announcement, Keeper reported that CHIP Magazine tested nine password managers across Android, iOS, and Windows and ranked Keeper first. Keeper’s announcement gives Keeper a 1.3 overall score, a 1.1 security score, and a 1.0 usability score; it says CHIP weighted Security at 50%, Usability at 30%, and Features at 20%. These figures are CHIP results as relayed by Keeper, not a review of the complete underlying test report. Keeper’s announcement of the CHIP test
