You can keep your MetroPCS number when moving to T-Mobile. Metro by T-Mobile’s published Smartphone Equality route uses an assisted transfer: gather your Metro account number and transfer PIN, then call the program’s migration line with your new T-Mobile account number. This route is intended for eligible customers, so confirm your eligibility with Metro before starting.
How do I transfer my MetroPCS number to T-Mobile?
MetroPCS is the familiar former branding; the carrier’s current name is Metro by T-Mobile. Its Smartphone Equality process is a specific route for qualifying loyal prepaid customers moving to T-Mobile postpaid, with no credit check. It is not a guarantee that every Metro customer qualifies. Confirm current eligibility and instructions with Metro by T-Mobile before proceeding.

- Gather the numbers and credentials. Have your Metro phone number, Metro account number, Metro transfer PIN, and new or temporary T-Mobile account number ready.
- Contact the migration team. For a new T-Mobile device, power it on and call 1-844-816-0783 from any phone. For a bring-your-own-device order with a new SIM, call after the SIM arrives. Give the agent your new T-Mobile account number, Metro account number, and transfer PIN.
- Activate the SIM as directed. Metro’s instructions say a new T-Mobile device has an eSIM. If your BYOD order came with a new physical SIM, insert it and power on after the call; Metro says it auto-activates when the number transfer completes.
- Keep Metro active until the transfer finishes. Do not cancel your Metro service first. Wait for the number to move before taking any action that could close the source account.
Where do I find my Metro account number and transfer PIN?
Request the transfer PIN in myMetro
On your Metro device, sign in to the myMetro app. Open Manage, find the line, select Manage This Line, then choose Request a Transfer PIN and Get a transfer PIN. Metro says this unique six-digit PIN is valid for seven days, so request it close to the transfer date. Use the transfer PIN Metro specifies; do not assume your ordinary account PIN or passcode will work.
Find the Metro account number
In myMetro, go to Manage > Additional Tasks > View Payment History, then select View on a bill. The account number appears on the bill. Metro also says you can find it on a statement in Metro My Account or ask support by dialing 611 from a Metro phone.

Can I use T-Mobile’s general transfer process instead?
T-Mobile lists several general port-in channels: transfer during online checkout, submit a transfer in T-Life, call to start a transfer for a prepaid account, or get help at a T-Mobile store. Metro’s Smartphone Equality migration has its own assisted route, so follow the instructions for your program and order rather than assuming the general process replaces it.
Submit a transfer in T-Life
T-Mobile’s published app instructions are:
- Open T-Life and go to Account.
- Tap Check Number Transfer Status, then choose Transfer a different number.
- Continue, select Start Transfer, and choose the temporary T-Mobile number.
- Enter the number you want to transfer, check it, and follow the prompts.
For prepaid service, T-Mobile lists 1-877-778-2106 to begin a transfer; store assistance is also available. App screens and options can change, so use the current prompts. T-Mobile’s general checklist asks for the number, current provider, account number, billing address including ZIP code, and transfer PIN or password. The exact credential depends on the source account and transfer route; confirm Metro’s required transfer PIN rather than treating different PINs as interchangeable.

How long does it take to port a Metro number to T-Mobile?
T-Mobile says a wireless line transfer typically completes in 10 minutes to 3 hours. That is a general estimate, not a guaranteed window for a particular Metro migration; accurate account details affect timing. T-Mobile says there is no charge for transferring phone numbers.
If your phone is not active after the expected time, check T-Mobile’s Port-In Dashboard or contact Customer Care. Incorrect or mismatched details, such as a misspelled name or address, may need validation or correction. T-Mobile lists 1-877-525-5833 for transfer-status questions. For the Smartphone Equality process, the published assisted route is the Metro migration number above.

- True Unlimited High-Speed Data at 4G/LTE speed on T-Mobile Network in USA.
- Unlimited calls within the USA, International texting and personal hotspot at 3G speed.
- Calls, texting, and data can also be used in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
- The activation takes up to 2 Hours.
What should I do before and during the transfer?
- Back up contacts, voicemail, and texts. T-Mobile says voicemail resets after porting.
- Plan for possible service overlap. T-Mobile says service may be active on both phones for up to 24 hours. If you call 911 during that period, stay on the line because emergency services may not be able to call you back.
- Review any lines left at Metro separately. T-Mobile says remaining lines may need to be canceled with the previous provider to avoid unexpected charges after the transferred number moves.
- Distinguish a number transfer from an ownership change. These steps move a number to T-Mobile service; changing who owns or pays for an existing account is a different process.
