Do not start Keenan Allen in Week 4. NFL.com’s injury roundup, updated October 3, lists the Indianapolis Colts receiver as OUT with a groin injury for the October 4 game against Washington in London. Pick another eligible player for your flex spot.
Why the earlier start advice changed
NFL Fantasy’s September 30 start/sit article recommended Allen as a low-end WR2 or strong flex. The case at the time was substantial: he had 20 targets through three games and scored 18.3 fantasy points against Houston. Matt Okada, identified as NFL & Fantasy Content, wrote: “Allen has 20 targets through three games and just dropped 18.3 fantasy points on the Texans. Like teammate Josh Downs, Allen has a glorious matchup this week in London, making him a low-end WR2 or a strong flex.” (NFL Fantasy, September 30)

That advice came before the later injury update. The October 3 roundup lists Allen OUT, so that status—not the earlier matchup-based recommendation—determines the Week 4 lineup decision. The Colts are scheduled to play Washington at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, October 4, at 9:30 a.m. ET. (NFL.com Week 4 injury roundup)
How to choose a replacement flex
There is no universally correct replacement without knowing your league’s scoring rules, roster, and available players. Compare the eligible options you actually have, using these factors:

- Game status and health: Favor a player confirmed active. Check status again near lineup lock because injury information can change.
- Expected opportunity and role: Look at the player’s likely involvement, such as targets or touches, and whether their role is secure enough to support a useful floor.
- Matchup: Use opponent context as a tiebreaker after checking availability and role; a favorable matchup cannot make an OUT player eligible.
- Scoring-format fit: In full- or half-PPR, receiving volume can matter more; in standard scoring, touchdowns and rushing production may weigh more. Apply your league’s actual rules.
If you are choosing between two eligible players, compare them on all four points rather than relying on a generic ranking. The information available here does not support naming a specific replacement.

Allen’s OUT designation makes him a sit for this Week 4 matchup. Before kickoff, verify the current status of whichever replacement you choose and make sure that player is in an eligible lineup slot.
