K7 Mémoire is Chaminade Dondah Adjolou’s Sanity Challenge Path Two project: an oral-memory website that presents family stories as cassette tapes to tune and play, rather than as posts in a conventional feed. The early demo has transcripts but no audio files, so its “playback” is transcript-led—not a service for recording or digitizing family tapes.
What is K7 Mémoire?
Built around memories shared by voice in Lomé, Togo, K7 Mémoire uses the familiar gestures of a cassette deck to make an oral-history archive feel tangible. Readers tune an FM-style dial, filter stories by mood, choose a tape, and follow a rolling transcript as the deck animates.

The project is available at k7-memoire.vercel.app. Its interface is an editorial choice as much as a visual one: family histories that may first be told aloud are represented through a listening-oriented experience instead of a standard article list.

How does the cassette-deck interface work?
The main screen brings together an FM dial, mood filters, cassette reels, a counter, VU meters, a rolling transcript, and a kente stripe. Selecting a story changes the tape being presented; pressing “Play” advances the counter. If a story has an audio URL, the interface can use that audio. In the current demo, audio files are absent, so the transcript supplies the experience instead.

A service-manual treatment also prints the GROQ query in the interface. That makes the connection between the displayed tapes and the underlying Sanity content visible to editors learning how the archive is assembled.
How is the archive structured in Sanity?
The content model has two document types: stories, labeled “Bande,” and narrators, labeled “Narrateur.” Keeping a narrator’s name and biography in a separate document avoids duplicating that information in every story. A story refers to its narrator, and the site joins the records when it fetches content.

}The same query shape is used for Sanity’s Content Lake and local seed documents, so the demo does not need a separate content model. An empty Content Lake is shown as an open tray; a failed query is shown as an error rather than being disguised with invented tapes.

What is in the demo—and what is not?
The K7 Mémoire submission records a seed drawer of 4 narrators and 8 stories (Chaminade Dondah Adjolou’s project submission, 2026). Those are project-specific seed counts, not an independent measure of a larger oral-history collection.
The current demo is a structured story interface, not a recording workflow: it does not ship family audio or provide a way to digitize a cassette. Without an audioUrl, the transcript is the playback experience. That distinction matters if you are looking for a way to preserve existing recordings: the project demonstrates how to organize and present oral memories, but not how to capture or store the recordings themselves.

What powers the site and its editor?
The documented stack is Next.js App Router, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, next-sanity, Sanity v6, and Vision, deployed on Vercel. The embedded Sanity Studio is available at the /studio route, with editing desks labeled Bandes / Voix.
Because the first environment did not have Sanity credentials, the project included a labeled demo mode backed by seed documents. The author also describes several implementation decisions: scaffolding with create-next-app in a subdirectory before moving to the repository root; using tsx --test after peer-dependency friction with Vitest; adding a Turbopack-related alias in next.config.ts for an swr react-server export issue; and placing Studio behind a client boundary to keep it out of the React Server Components graph.

What would it take to turn this into a family archive?
K7 Mémoire’s roadmap points toward real recordings, but treats consent and a quiet, respectful experience as prerequisites rather than cosmetic features. The planned additions are:
- Adding family recordings with consent-conscious handling.
- Expanding the places and eras represented as the Content Lake grows.
- Creating a “donate a tape” flow that creates a draft
storyin Studio. - Adding Vision-assisted queries from the service manual to help editors learn GROQ.
For anyone building a similar archive, the useful lesson is to treat content structure and editorial safeguards as part of the product, not just the CMS setup. A narrator reference, place, era, transcript, and mood give stories meaningful context; consent, provenance, and a clear draft/review workflow become essential when recordings from real families are introduced. Those safeguards are future requirements for this project, not capabilities the demo already establishes.
