Jev Can’t Generate Text. Can It Still Help With Web Scraping?

Jev may help select a next action from page information supplied by a browser system, but the system must still inspect the page and perform the scrape.

Jev is not a web scraper or a writing model. Its documented job is to answer typed questions about state that an application supplies. In a scraping or browser-automation workflow, it could help choose a next action from observed options—but another component must inspect the page, provide those options, and carry out and verify the action.

What Jev does—and what it does not do

Jev’s API accepts caller-supplied state, which can be text or JSON, along with typed questions, then returns structured answers for software to use. Jev’s API documentation states: “It does not generate text.” Jev API documentation

That boundary matters for scraping. A request to write a selector, summarize a page, generate code, or compose text to enter in a form calls for text or code generation; the documented Jev API does not provide that output. An independent overview also describes Jev as unsuitable for writing, summaries, code, arithmetic, and chains of dependent steps, but the API documentation is the primary source for its output limitation. Where Jev could fit in a scraping workflow

A browser system could use Jev as a bounded decision component: first, the system observes a page and represents relevant controls or possible actions; then it asks Jev a typed question about the supplied information; finally, the browser runtime performs the selected action and checks what happened. The browser-use example describes selection from text-based page-element information, while a separate use-case guide assigns listing controls and executing actions to the surrounding harness. • Jev: chooses a defined answer from supplied state and questions.
  • Scraper or browser runtime: fetches or observes pages, identifies content or controls, and executes operations such as clicking or typing.
  • Text-generating model or code: may be needed to write selectors, produce summaries or code, or compose text for a form.

The demo is illustrative: its sample scenarios run on built-in pages, not live Jev calls. It therefore does not establish that Jev crawls websites, manages browser sessions, extracts arbitrary page content, or performs reliably on production scraping tasks. Jev browser-use demo

How Jev compares with the other parts of the stack

Component What it receives or observes What it produces or does
Jev State and typed questions supplied by the caller Structured answers; it does not generate text. Jev API documentation
Text-generating model or code A prompt or programming task May write prose, code, or form text; those outputs are outside Jev’s documented API capability. Jev API documentation
Scraper or browser runtime Pages and browser controls, observed or fetched by the system Performs page interactions and extraction; the cited guide describes the surrounding harness as listing controls and executing actions. Jev AI Hub use-case guide

Model versions and limits to check before implementation

Jev AI’s model documentation lists jev-1.13 as a pinned build and jev-latest as a rolling alias. A pinned identifier is the relevant choice when repeatable evaluation or comparison matters; the rolling alias opts into updates. For a version-sensitive deployment, check the current model reference and record the actual version returned by the service. Jev AI model documentation

The same documentation, accessed October 4, 2026, reported a 32,000-token context window, a 100,000-character state cap, and up to 20 questions per call. These are service limits that may change, not durable guarantees; verify them in the live model reference before relying on them. Jev AI model documentation
