Choose the JBL PartyBox 720 if your party may move away from a power outlet: with two separately sold Battery 600 packs, JBL claims up to 15 hours of playtime. Choose the Sony ULT TOWER 10 for a home setup centered on 360-degree sound and lighting, or if you want a wireless karaoke microphone included. Neither is a proven sound-quality winner over the other: the manufacturers’ specifications are not a controlled head-to-head test.

Which one works better away from an outlet?
JBL: portable with an extra battery purchase
JBL’s 2025 technical sheet specifies up to 15 hours of playtime when the PartyBox 720 uses two Battery 600 packs, which are sold separately. JBL says actual runtime varies with volume and audio content, so treat 15 hours as a maximum claim rather than a guaranteed session length. The batteries are a material part of the cost if you intend to use the speaker untethered.

The 720 weighs 31 kg (68.3 lb) and measures 416 × 942 × 406 mm (W × H × D), according to that same JBL sheet. JBL lists integrated wheels and a handle, which help with moving it, but its weight still makes it a large speaker rather than a lightweight portable. It is also rated IPX4 for splash resistance—not waterproofing or protection against submersion.
#1 Best Overall
- Superior JBL Pro Sound: We’re cranking out 800 watts of JBL Pro Sound—loud, clean, and full of deep bass from those two massive 9” woofers. The tweeters keep the highs crisp and clear, so every track hits just right and the dance floor stays packed.
- Futuristic lightshow: Mix all that epic sound with a lightshow to match—vibrant stars, flowing trails, and strobes that move with the beat. It’s a full-on vibe.
- Up to 15 hours playtime: Keep the music going for up to 15 hours on a single charge. Need more juice? Swap in the backup batteries (sold separately) and keep it moving. Just need a quick boost? A 10-minute fast charge gets you up to 2 extra hours of playtime.
- Ergonomic integrated handle and wider sturdy wheels: Taking the party outside just got easier—wider wheels roll smooth on rough ground, and the built-in handle makes it easy to grab and go.
- IPX4 Splash proof: Whether we’re hanging in the park or chilling by the pool, the PartyBox 720 is IPX4 splash proof—so a little water is no big deal.
Sony: treat it as a plugged-in home speaker
Sony’s official product information reviewed for this comparison does not establish battery-powered operation. If you need music away from an outlet, do not assume the ULT TOWER 10 can provide it; verify the official specification for your region before purchase.
Which is better for karaoke and live connections?
Sony is more ready for karaoke out of the box because its product page says a wireless microphone is supplied. JBL provides two XLR inputs for microphones, guitars, or DJ equipment, but its wireless microphone is optional. That makes the 720 more flexible for plugging in gear, while Sony has the clearer included-mic advantage. Confirm package contents with the seller, especially if buying a bundle.

How do their sound and lighting features differ?
JBL’s documented specifications and linking
JBL specifies 800 W RMS under IEC60268 and a frequency response of 32 Hz–20 kHz for the PartyBox 720 in its 2025 technical sheet. The company also describes a beat-reactive lightshow and Auracast linking. JBL says two PartyBox 720 speakers can pair in stereo, and additional Auracast-enabled speakers can be linked.

These are different feature sets, not evidence that one speaker sounds better. The manufacturer material does not provide a controlled comparison, and Sony’s official information reviewed here does not establish comparable wattage, frequency response, weight, dimensions, or battery life. Do not infer a sound-quality winner from JBL’s published wattage or either brand’s feature descriptions.
