Choose the JBL Flip 7 if a smaller, lighter speaker matters most. Choose the JBL Charge 6 if you want longer manufacturer-advertised playback and the ability to charge a phone or another device. The comparison below is between these current models; the recommendations follow JBL’s published specifications, not independent listening or battery tests.

Flip 7 vs. Charge 6 at a glance

Factor JBL Flip 7 JBL Charge 6
Size 7.2 × 2.7 × 2.8 inches; 0.826 kg, according to JBL’s product page 9.0 × 3.9 × 3.7 inches, according to JBL’s comparison page
Advertised maximum playback Up to 16 hours on JBL’s current comparison page; JBL also lists 14 hours maximum music playtime, with up to two additional hours using Playtime Boost Up to 28 hours on JBL’s current comparison page; JBL’s comparison article describes up to 24 hours plus four with Playtime Boost
Charge another device No; JBL says the Flip 7 does not charge other devices Yes; it has a built-in power bank
Carrying provision Carabiner included; JBL describes its Pushlock carrying system Removable strap included
Water and dust protection IP68 on the product page IP68 in JBL’s launch announcement
Multi-speaker connection Auracast Auracast

Specifications are from JBL’s current portable-speaker comparison and Flip 7 product page. JBL’s official sources disagree on the protection rating: its UK comparison article says IP67 for both models, while the model product page and 2025 launch announcement say IP68. The table uses the model-specific product and launch statements; JBL’s pages are not consistent.

Which one should you choose?

Choose the Flip 7 for a smaller carry

The Flip 7 is the more compact option by JBL’s published dimensions. It also comes with a carabiner, so it has a carrying option without requiring you to buy an accessory. Pick it if size and ease of carrying matter more than a power bank or the Charge 6’s longer advertised playback.

Choose the Charge 6 for longer playback and phone charging

The Charge 6 is larger, but its built-in power bank lets it charge a phone or another device. JBL also advertises a higher maximum playback figure for it. That combination makes it the more useful fit for trips where both speaker time and a way to top up another device matter. It includes a removable strap for carrying.

How to read JBL’s battery-life figures

JBL’s current comparison page gives maximum advertised playback of up to 16 hours for the Flip 7 and up to 28 hours for the Charge 6. Those headline figures include Playtime Boost: JBL’s comparison article explains the Flip 7 as up to 14 hours plus two extra hours with the feature, and the Charge 6 as up to 24 hours plus four. The Flip 7 product specification page separately lists 14 hours maximum music playtime.

These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured results. They are not guarantees of the time you will get in every situation; actual playback can vary with usage and conditions. If you compare the models, distinguish the standard playback figure from the boosted maximum rather than treating the headline number as an everyday runtime.

Water resistance, durability and linking speakers

Protection ratings are not described consistently

JBL’s Flip 7 product page lists IP68, and JBL’s March 2025 launch announcement identifies both the Flip 7 and Charge 6 as IP68. However, JBL’s UK head-to-head article says IP67 for both. Because the official descriptions conflict, check the relevant model’s current product documentation if a specific rating is important to your purchase.

In the launch announcement, JBL described its protection claim as surviving freshwater submersion up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes and drops from up to 1 meter onto concrete. Treat those as JBL’s stated conditions, not independent durability test results.

Auracast requires a compatible speaker

Both current models support Auracast for multi-speaker connections. That does not mean either will link with every older JBL speaker: the other speaker must support the relevant connection method.

What published specs cannot tell you

JBL’s pages establish dimensions, listed features and manufacturer playback claims, but they do not establish which speaker sounds better in an independent listening comparison or how long either lasts in your particular use. Wattage alone is not a reliable shortcut for judging loudness: JBL cautions that a 100 W speaker will not necessarily be twice as loud as a 50 W one. The published figures here are not a substitute for a listening comparison if sound character is your deciding factor.

Are the launch prices still current?

JBL announced UK launch prices of £129.99 for the Flip 7 and £169.99 for the Charge 6, with availability beginning April 1, 2025. These are historical UK launch prices, not current retail quotes. Check local retailers for today’s price and availability in your region.
