Start with Master Collection Vol. 1 for Metal Gear’s story
Konami lists Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in Vol. 1. It is the direct option if your priority is revisiting the series’ roots and early major entries rather than switching to another stealth universe. Splinter Cell is a separate stealth-shooter series, not a continuation of Metal Gear’s plot or characters. Ubisoft’s announced remake is described as linear, with an emphasis on watching situations, planning a route, using gadgets, and outsmarting enemies. That makes it the alternative here for readers who want stealth-focused missions without moving to another open-ended comparison or another Metal Gear collection. Ubisoft’s remake page outlines the project.

Ubisoft creative director Chris Auty described the series’ stealth ideal this way: “Ideally, they end up coming out on the other side with no one having realized you were even there. That’s the essence of Splinter Cell.” The cited development interview says the remake was in its earliest stages when published; it does not establish a release date or current availability.

Kojima Productions announced Physint as a new action-espionage game in January 2024. In that announcement, Hideo Kojima said production would begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2; that was a statement about the plan at the time, not a current release window. Read the original announcement.
