Yes—the original JBL Boombox supports JBL Connect+. It can link with other Connect+ speakers, but it cannot link to newer PartyBoost speakers such as the JBL Boombox 2. The key is to match the speaker-linking feature, not just the brand or Bluetooth capability.
What does Connect+ do on the original JBL Boombox?
JBL Connect+ links compatible JBL speakers wirelessly so they play the same audio source together. JBL says the feature can link more than 100 Connect+-enabled speakers. Its support page lists the original Boombox alongside the Pulse 3, Flip 4, and Charge 3 as Connect+ models. The JBL Connect+ support page and the original Boombox specification sheet both identify the feature.

This documentation describes linked playback, not stereo separation between different models. Do not assume Connect+ creates left and right stereo channels across a mixed set of speakers.

Look for Connect+ support on the exact model. JBL names the Pulse 3, Flip 4, and Charge 3 as examples of compatible Connect+ speakers. A JBL logo, Bluetooth connection, or similar model name alone does not establish that two speakers can link.

To link speakers, start music on one Connect+-enabled speaker, then press the Connect+ button on each additional compatible speaker. They join the same playback. JBL’s instructions and model guidance are on its Connect+ support page.
Can the original Boombox connect to Boombox 2?
No. The original Boombox uses Connect+, while Boombox 2 belongs to the newer PartyBoost generation. JBL says PartyBoost does not support earlier Connect or Connect+ products, and specifically identifies the original Boombox and Boombox 2 as incompatible. JBL’s PartyBoost compatibility guidance explains the generation break. A JBL Japan support page also says Boombox 2 cannot connect to Connect or Connect+ models.

Connect+ and PartyBoost are not interchangeable
Before pairing speakers, check whether each one supports Connect+ or PartyBoost. JBL states that Connect and Connect+ speakers cannot be paired with PartyBoost models. PartyBoost stereo mode has a separate restriction: JBL says it requires two speakers of the same model. That stereo-mode rule is documented for PartyBoost and should not be assumed to describe Connect+ behavior. See JBL’s PartyBoost stereo-mode instructions.

The original Boombox specification sheet lists up to 24 hours of playtime, with actual playback varying according to volume and music content. That battery figure is separate from speaker-link compatibility.
