The clearest Java release news is Apache Grails 8.0.0, which raises its minimums to Java 21 and Gradle 9.7, and Open Liberty 26.0.0.10, which adds Java 27 support. Liberty’s Java 27 support is not an LTS release. Other items include Liberty’s MCP Server feature and LangChain4j workshop; the available GlassFish and Infinispan information does not confirm a new current GA release.
What changes with the Grails 8 upgrade?
A new baseline and framework stack
Apache announced Grails 8.0.0 on October 8, 2026. It is the first major Grails release planned and delivered entirely as an Apache Top-Level Project. The release requires Java 21 and Gradle 9.7 or later, and moves to Apache Groovy 5.1, Spring Boot 4.1, Spring Framework 7, Spring Security 7.1, Jackson 3, Tomcat 11 and Jakarta Servlet 6.1. The announcement also highlights Hibernate 7 support, renewed GORM for Neo4j, Undertow support and Micrometer spans.

Grails 8’s standard BOM lists Spock 2.4-groovy-5.0. That identifies the Spock version selected for this Grails dependency set; it is not an announcement that this is the latest standalone Spock release.

Check behavior changes before upgrading
Do not treat a Grails 8 upgrade as a drop-in version change. Before changing grailsVersion, read the official Grails 8.0.0 announcement and review its behavior changes. It calls out changes affecting GORM nullability and the return type of count(); Hibernate 7 sequence naming and version values for new entities; MongoDB string IDs; transaction behavior; plugin registration; CLI packaging; and GSP compilation. Check the Java installation and update the Gradle wrapper to a supported version as part of the upgrade.
How to read the project activity figures
The Grails announcement reports more than 4,000 commits across 400 pull requests. These are project activity counts, not measures of software quality, adoption or performance.
What does Open Liberty 26.0.0.10 add?
Open Liberty’s October 6, 2026 GA release, version 26.0.0.10, adds Java 27 support and includes security fixes. The release post explicitly says, “This is not a Long-Term-Support (LTS) release.” Java 27 compatibility therefore should not be read as a recommendation to move every production estate to that Java version.

Liberty users should consult the release post’s CVE list to assess whether their deployments are exposed and what remediation applies. The post identifies security fixes but the relevant exposure depends on the software and configuration in use.

The September 8, 2026 release adds MCP Server support through mcp-1.0, OAuth 2.0 Protected Resource Metadata support for openidConnectClient, and custom session-cache name prefixes for shared JCache clusters. Separately, the release includes security vulnerability fixes and bug fixes. Teams maintaining Liberty should use the full release post for the detailed fixes and upgrade implications.
What does the Liberty LangChain4j workshop cover?
Announced July 10, 2026, the Liberty LangChain4j Workshop is a practical, hands-on learning resource for building AI-infused Java applications. It starts with a chatbot and progresses through connecting to LLMs, prompt engineering, streaming, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), function calling and tools, MCP, guardrails, observability, fault tolerance and agent workflows.
The workshop announcement establishes its subject matter, not the latest LangChain4j version, a list of supported model providers or that the workshop is a paid course.

What is confirmed about Infinispan releases?
Infinispan’s official release listing says the project supports only the latest minor release within a major version and is licensed under Apache 2.0. The listing includes a 13.0.x entry with November 2026 timing, which is future-dated as of October 13, 2026; it should not be described as already released. The available listing does not securely establish the latest currently available GA version, so no “latest Infinispan version” claim is warranted here.
Does the GlassFish snapshot confirm a new GA release?
No. The surfaced GlassFish Release 8 release-notes PDF is snapshot material. It identifies the GlassFish open-source community, but does not establish a current GA release date, version status or headline changes. A snapshot document alone is not evidence that a release is generally available.

What can be said about Spock?
The specific verified Spock version in this roundup is 2.4-groovy-5.0, as listed in Grails 8’s standard BOM. That is a Grails dependency detail, not confirmation of Spock’s current standalone release. No official standalone Spock release announcement is established here.
