A separate project, prospero-win, already offers experimental builds for running selected Windows games on homebrew-enabled PS5 consoles. Its documentation and game examples show what is possible today—and why that does not mean a retail PS5 can run any PC game.
What is Mihawk OS?
Mihawk OS is the reported name for a Windows 11-style environment being developed as an expansion of PS5 Proton, also referred to as PP. Reporting describes goals that include running 32-bit and 64-bit Windows games through Proton, with a Linux compatibility layer planned for later. The same reporting characterizes PS5 Proton as a demo, says few games have been tested, and gives no public release date. That reporting establishes a development direction, not a released OS or a product from Microsoft.

What can run Windows games on a PS5 now?
The separate prospero-win project has experimental public builds and a README describing a Windows compatibility runtime for native PS5 homebrew. Its documented approach runs 64-bit Windows applications on the console’s x86-64 CPU through Wine and translates 32-bit code with a custom x86 translator. For graphics, Direct3D 8–11 goes through DXVK and Vulkan; OpenGL games use Mesa’s Zink on Vulkan. The project also documents GDI, audio, DualSense controls, USB keyboard and mouse support, a launcher, game profiles, and save synchronization. The project README is the source for these implementation details.
That is not the same project as Mihawk OS or proof that Mihawk OS is available. The prospero-win repository credits a contributor named mihawk-99 for Wine-on-PS5 fixes and Mesa work, but the available reporting cautions that a connection between that contributor and the Mihawk associated with PS5 Proton is not established. Treat the projects as distinct unless their developers confirm otherwise.

Games and performance listed by prospero-win
The project lists Half-Life 2, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, OpenArena, Warcraft III, Space Cadet Pinball, and Wine Minesweeper among its playable examples. Its README reports the following performance; these are project claims, not independent benchmarks:
| Game | Project-reported performance |
|---|---|
| Half-Life 2 | 60 FPS on High settings |
| Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition | Around 55 FPS in the open city at 1080p |
| Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, and OpenArena | Above 60 FPS |
These examples demonstrate compatibility with selected games, not a general performance guarantee. The README calls the runtime experimental and warns that support for both 32-bit and 64-bit software does not mean every modern Windows game works.

Can you run Steam games on a stock retail PS5?
Not through these homebrew projects on an unmodified retail console. The documented prospero-win setup requires a PS5 capable of running homebrew. Its requirements are not Mihawk OS installation instructions, and the available reporting does not establish that Mihawk OS is publicly installable. A title being sold for Windows or available through Steam does not by itself make it compatible with this runtime.
Compatibility also depends on what the game needs. The prospero-win README says it does not bypass DRM or anti-cheat, load kernel drivers, or include games. A Windows title that depends on those protections or drivers should not be assumed to work.

What prospero-win setup requires
The project documentation lists these prerequisites for its own experimental setup:
- A PS5 capable of running homebrew.
- A compatible FTP server and ELF loader.
- An app loader.
- Your own copy of the game.
- A Linux PC to install the runtime.
The app itself does not use firmware-specific offsets, but the jailbreak, loader, and bundled helper have firmware dependencies. That distinction matters: a console’s firmware may affect whether the homebrew chain works even though the app is not tied to firmware offsets. Follow the prospero-win documentation for its specific setup; these requirements should not be transferred to Mihawk OS, for which detailed installation instructions have not been established.

- Enjoy smooth and fluid high frame rate gameplay at up to 120 fps for compatible games, with support for 120Hz output on 4K displays.
- PS5 consoles support an 8K output, so you can play games on your 4320p resolution display.
- Maximize your play sessions with near-instant load times for installed PS5 games.
- 825GB SSD allows ultra-fast load times, while 3-D audio output produces crisp acoustics.
- Explore uncharted virtual territories and slay dragons with this sleek Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console.
For games designed around mouse and keyboard, prospero-win documents USB keyboard and mouse support and custom mappings. Those peripherals may be useful for particular titles, but they are not a verified Mihawk OS requirement and are not necessary for every game.

| What is documented? | A Windows compatibility runtime, technical implementation details, setup prerequisites, and selected playable examples appear in its README. Project README | Reporting describes PS5 Proton as a demo and Mihawk OS as a Windows 11-style development goal. Detailed primary project documentation is not established in the available reporting. Current reporting |
| Availability | Experimental public builds are described by the project. | No public release date is reported; a public Mihawk OS release is not established. |
| Compatibility evidence | The project names selected games and reports performance figures, with an explicit experimental-status warning. | Reporting says few games have been tested; no detailed compatibility list is established. |
| Installation details | Homebrew-capable PS5, compatible loaders, a user-owned game copy, and a Linux PC are listed. | Detailed installation requirements are not established. |
What to take from the reports
The meaningful near-term distinction is between an experimental runtime with public builds and documented examples, and a separate reported project direction whose public release and requirements remain unestablished. Neither supports the broad claim that a PS5 is ready to replace a Windows gaming PC. For now, any compatibility claim should be tied to a particular project and game, and the reported prospero-win frame rates should be read as developer-provided figures rather than independently tested results.
