A countdown can give a work period a clear endpoint. You supply the task and decide how long to set the timer; the sources do not establish a required interval for iTomato.

- Choose whether to continue or take a break. The available descriptions establish a countdown and ring, not a built-in schedule for breaks, task tracking, or session history.
What is—and isn’t—known about iTomato today
The available descriptions are from 2012 and concern the app at that time. They do not establish whether iTomato is currently available in any App Store region, what it costs, which devices or operating-system versions it supports, or what its privacy terms are. They also provide no measured productivity results. Do not assume that a similarly named app is the same product.
A separate project story by a developer mentions iTomato as a favorite iOS timer and says using a phone as a dedicated timer was inconvenient while working at a computer (PomodoroApp project page). That is one author’s experience, not a finding that applies to every phone user.

The two historical descriptions support the basic distinction: both an app and a conventional timer can mark an interval, while the physical option does not require keeping a phone at hand.
