For global enterprises, the right IT asset management (ITAM) platform depends on what you need it to manage, where it can be deployed, and how it fits your existing systems. Five products have documented capabilities relevant to that decision: ServiceNow IT Asset Management, Flexera One IT Asset Management, Lansweeper Platform, ManageEngine AssetExplorer, and BMC Helix Asset Management. The available evidence does not support naming a sixth platform or ranking these five as the definitive best.
What the five-platform shortlist can—and cannot—tell you
Each of these products documents capabilities relevant to enterprise ITAM, but they address different needs. Some emphasize lifecycle workflows and integration with IT service management (ITSM) or a configuration management database (CMDB); others foreground discovery, software license management, or visibility across hybrid estates. A capability mentioned by a vendor is a reason to evaluate it, not proof that it will meet your organization’s requirements.

Global suitability also cannot be inferred from labels such as “global teams” or “global data centers.” Hosting locations, data residency, language availability, support hours, regional permissions, and country-specific contractual terms must be checked for the particular edition and countries you operate in. The product information available for the five candidates does not establish a consistent, country-by-country comparison.

ServiceNow IT Asset Management
ServiceNow describes lifecycle management for hardware, software, and cloud IT assets on its AI Platform. Its ITAM offering connects with catalogs, the CMDB, and procurement, making it a candidate for organizations seeking to place asset processes within a wider enterprise workflow environment. Before selecting it, confirm product packaging, licensing, regional hosting, and implementation requirements for the countries where you will use it.
#1 Best Overall
Flexera One IT Asset Management
Flexera describes unified inventory across on-premises environments, cloud, SaaS, and containers, alongside license optimization and audit support. Its offering is worth evaluating when complex software entitlements, hybrid visibility, or audit readiness are priorities. Flexera says Flexera One has hosting regions in North America, Europe, and APAC and offers on-premises options for organizations with strict sovereignty needs. Confirm which region and contractual controls apply to your deployment.
Flexera’s 2026 State of ITAM Report reports that 31% of respondents have visibility into their AI applications, 48% of companies were audited “last year,” and 78% now have FinOps teams. These are figures attributed to Flexera’s report, not independently verified rates for all enterprises; the audit figure also depends on the report’s survey period.
Flexera’s product page also features a customer testimonial from John Haenen, Software asset consultant, Dutch Police: “Flexera sees a problem and helps solve [it]. That is what is of great value for us.” Treat this as a vendor-hosted testimonial, not a comparative product assessment.
Lansweeper Platform
Lansweeper calls its product a Cyber Asset Intelligence Platform and describes continuous validation and centralization of IT, OT, cloud, and IoT asset data. Its feature information covers asset classification and normalization, as well as integration and federation across distributed installations. The platform can be evaluated as a discovery and asset-intelligence layer alongside an existing ITSM system or CMDB. Check whether the specific offering also covers your required lifecycle and license-management workflows, and verify country-specific residency terms.
ManageEngine AssetExplorer
ManageEngine describes hardware and software asset management, network discovery, lifecycle management, software license compliance, purchase orders, and contracts. Its product material says AssetExplorer is available in 29 languages; that figure does not establish that every language, support service, or workflow is available in every edition or country. The AssetExplorer Cloud page describes global data centers, configurable lifecycle workflows, and barcode, QR, and RFID scanner inputs. Verify current edition limits, available hosting regions, local support, and pricing. If you use scanners for inventory intake, confirm compatibility with your existing scanning workflow rather than assuming every device or setup will work.
BMC Helix Asset Management
BMC describes lifecycle oversight from procurement through end of life, with depreciation and usage tracking, software license management, contract relationships, and asset visibility. Its asset management offering connects asset information to Helix CMDB and Helix Discovery for service mapping and dependency context. It is a candidate to assess when your organization already relies on BMC Helix ITSM or needs asset data in that service context. Country-by-country deployment and support coverage must be confirmed directly.

Compare the documented fit before you shortlist
| Platform | Documented emphasis | Global deployment evidence | Useful evaluation question |
|---|---|---|---|
| ServiceNow IT Asset Management | Hardware, software, and cloud asset lifecycle; catalogs, CMDB, and procurement connections | Regional hosting details are not established here; confirm them for the target countries and product packaging. | Does its licensing and implementation fit the workflows and ServiceNow environment you intend to use? |
| Flexera One IT Asset Management | Inventory across on-premises, cloud, SaaS, and containers; license optimization and audit support | Flexera says it has North American, European, and APAC hosting regions, plus on-premises options. Confirm the applicable region and contractual controls. | Can it reconcile your actual software entitlements, usage, and audit requirements? |
| Lansweeper Platform | IT, OT, cloud, and IoT discovery; classification, normalization, and distributed-installation federation | Its feature information describes EU or US multi-region hosting options. Confirm the offering and residency terms for your countries. | Will it serve mainly as a discovery layer, or cover the lifecycle and licensing processes you need as well? |
| ManageEngine AssetExplorer | Hardware and software management, discovery, lifecycle, licenses, purchase orders, and contracts | Product material says 29 languages are available; the Cloud page describes global data centers. Neither statement alone confirms support or compliance in every country. | Which edition, language, hosting region, and scanner workflow meet your requirements? |
| BMC Helix Asset Management | Lifecycle, depreciation, usage, licenses, and contracts, with Helix CMDB and Discovery context | Country-by-country coverage is not established here; confirm hosting, support, and contractual terms directly. | Does the connection to your Helix service-management environment provide the asset and service context you need? |
How to choose for a distributed estate
1. Define what counts as an asset
List the asset classes and environments the platform must cover: for example, hardware, software, SaaS, cloud, containers, OT or IoT, remote devices, and equipment that connects only intermittently. Distinguish discovery from ongoing management. Finding a device is not the same as tracking its owner, contract, license entitlement, lifecycle status, or retirement.

Decide whether the ITAM product should be your system of record, a discovery and intelligence layer feeding an existing ITSM platform or CMDB, or part of a broader workflow suite. Map the required links to procurement and finance, and specify how purchase, assignment, renewal, compliance review, reclamation, and disposal should work. This makes it easier to distinguish a platform’s documented features from the integrations and configuration your process actually needs.

3. Set the global operating requirements
Write down the countries and regions in scope, data-residency constraints, required languages, support hours, and rules for separating regional data and permissions. Ask each vendor to identify the applicable hosting location and contractual commitments for your edition. A broad statement about regional data centers is not a substitute for confirming where your organization’s data will reside or what support is available locally.
4. Validate requirements in a proof of concept
Use representative assets and real workflows to check discovery accuracy, data normalization, integrations, permissions, license reconciliation, and lifecycle handling. Include assets from different regions and network conditions, and test the systems that must exchange data with ITAM. Record which capabilities work in the proposed edition, which require configuration or services, and which are unavailable under the proposed terms.
5. Compare the complete proposal
Ask for pricing and implementation scope against your asset counts, required modules, integrations, countries, and support needs. Compare the proposed recurring charges and one-time services rather than treating a feature list as a total-cost estimate. Confirm limits, renewal terms, and regional contractual conditions in the vendor proposal; the evidence summarized here does not establish current quotes or contract terms.

Make the shortlist match the problem
Start with the operating model, not an assumed universal ranking. ServiceNow and BMC merit evaluation when workflow or service-management context is central; Flexera when software licensing and hybrid inventory are prominent; Lansweeper when discovery and asset intelligence across varied environments are key; and ManageEngine when its documented lifecycle, license, and purchasing features fit the required edition. Those are evaluation starting points, not independent test results. Choose only after the relevant regional terms, feature fit, integrations, implementation effort, and full proposal have been validated for your estate.
