Its official guidance points instead to symptom-based troubleshooting: restart the device, check for software updates and available storage, and address an app that is misbehaving. Menu labels vary by model and software version, and these steps may help with specific problems rather than guarantee a speed boost.
First, work out what feels slow
Notice whether the delay affects the whole Fire TV interface or just one app. If the home screen and several apps are slow, start with device-level checks. If only one app is sluggish, focus on that app before changing broader device settings.

Amazon cautions that the Fire TV experience differs on some devices, so your menu names or layout may not match every set of instructions exactly. Its navigation guide identifies My Fire TV or Device & Software as the relevant settings area for device information, software updates and available storage; Applications is the area for managing installed-app settings. Try reversible device-level troubleshooting
Restart the Fire TV Stick
Use the device’s restart option rather than immediately resetting it. Depending on your interface, look under My Fire TV or Device & Software. Restarting is an official Fire TV support topic, but Amazon does not present it as a guaranteed performance improvement.

Check for a software update
- Open Settings from the Fire TV home screen.
- Choose My Fire TV or Device & Software; the label depends on the device interface.
- Open the software update option and follow the on-screen instructions if an update is available.
Amazon’s support hub includes guidance for updating Fire TV software. An update is a troubleshooting step, not proof that a particular lag issue will be fixed. See Amazon Fire TV Support.
Look at available storage
In My Fire TV or Device & Software, check the available storage shown for your device. Amazon identifies this as where storage information can be displayed, but does not specify a free-space threshold that guarantees smoother performance. If space is tight, removing an app you no longer use may be a sensible storage-management step; do not assume it will speed up every Stick.

If only one app is slow, troubleshoot that app
For a problem isolated to one app, try the app-specific options before changing device-wide settings. Amazon lists app crashes and clearing app data or cache among its Fire TV support topics. Find installed-app controls under Settings > Applications; exact options and labels may vary. Clearing cache is not an established fix for general interface lag. Clearing app data is a different, more disruptive action: it may remove information or settings saved by that app, so use the app’s own instructions and understand the consequences before proceeding. Uninstall an app only if you actually want it removed, not as a guaranteed speed tweak.

Choose the next step by symptom and risk

When troubleshooting is not enough
Some older Fire TV Sticks have more limited hardware. Amazon’s developer FAQ says that “because of the more limited hardware for some older Fire TV Sticks, optimizing your app for performance and stability may be critical.” That statement is developer guidance about app performance and hardware limits, not a promise that a consumer setting will make an older Stick faster. If reversible troubleshooting does not address persistent sluggishness, a newer Fire TV device is an option to consider, but Amazon’s cited material does not guarantee that a particular replacement will resolve every performance complaint.
