Yes. Wemo is a smart-home brand and product line of Belkin. The public record identifies it as Belkin’s own brand, not as a separate company that Belkin later bought. The more urgent question for owners is that Belkin ended Wemo cloud services and app support for select products on January 31, 2026, which changed what a Wemo device can do.
Wemo is a Belkin brand
Two dated sources establish the relationship. A January 2012 announcement from Kwikset, a lock maker that was publicizing a partnership, described WeMo as Belkin’s newly launched home automation system. In 2015, Belkin submitted written testimony to a US Senate hearing in which the company listed WeMo among its brands, alongside Belkin and Linksys. The testimony included this sentence: “When consumers see a Belkin product, or a Linksys product, or a WeMo product, they know that it is a product they can trust, and one that carries a rich heritage of commitment to quality and excellence.”

Both sources treat WeMo as part of Belkin. Neither describes a Wemo company being acquired, merged, or spun off. Readers who saw “acquired by Belkin” in older coverage should treat that phrasing as unsupported by these sources.

What the ownership answer does and does not establish
The conclusion rests on Belkin’s own brand language and a dated partner announcement. It does not rest on a corporate registry filing or an acquisition record, so it cannot tell you how Belkin’s subsidiaries are structured internally. For the practical question, “who makes and supports Wemo?”, the answer is Belkin. For questions about the legal entity that holds a particular Wemo trademark or contract, you would need a corporate filing, which is outside what the available sources cover.

What changed on January 31, 2026
Belkin’s support notice, last updated in January 2026, states: “After careful consideration, Belkin has made the decision to discontinue Wemo cloud services and app support for select Wemo products effective January 31, 2026.” The notice is published under Belkin’s name, and it governs the status of any device it names.
For affected products, the following stop working:
- The Wemo app.
- Remote access to the device when you are away from home.
- Cloud-dependent voice integrations.
Belkin also says new setup or reconfiguration through the Wemo app or Apple HomeKit is unavailable after the cutoff. Any device that is not covered by the exceptions below should be treated as no longer supported.

Which models are covered by the exceptions
Belkin identifies Wemo products by model number, and the notice works through those numbers. It names two groups of exceptions:

- HomeKit continuation for preconfigured devices. Affected devices that were already configured with Apple HomeKit before January 31, 2026 may continue to function locally in Apple Home.
- Thread-based models. The notice separately identifies some Thread-based products as not affected by the cloud shutdown and continuing through HomeKit.

Appearing in this table means the notice names the model. It does not mean a device can be newly set up, and it does not mean the device will keep working in every situation. Wemo models that the notice does not name are not covered by these exceptions, so do not assume they still function.

What to do depending on your device’s status
If the device is still working through Apple Home
- Confirm the model number matches one of the names in the table above.
- Open Apple Home and check that the device still responds locally. Remember that the notice’s exception applies only to devices configured with HomeKit before January 31, 2026.
- Expect the Wemo app, remote access, and cloud-dependent voice commands to be unavailable, even on a listed model.
If the device no longer works
Belkin says a product still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026 may be eligible for a refund. Eligibility is not guaranteed, and you must provide proof of purchase. Follow the process described in Belkin’s official notice rather than a third-party summary.
For a device that no longer works, Belkin recommends authorized e-waste recycling when the device is not HomeKit-compatible or is out of warranty. Do not put Wemo hardware in household trash.

A legacy example: the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug WSP080
The Wemo WiFi Smart Plug WSP080 is a real Wemo product and appears in Belkin’s model-specific help page and in its shutdown notice. It is useful as an example of how the rules apply. A WSP080 that was configured with HomeKit before January 31, 2026 may keep working locally in Apple Home, but it cannot be newly set up through the Wemo app or HomeKit.

Belkin’s notice is the reference for every device status question above. Use the model number, the HomeKit configuration date, and the warranty status to determine which of the outcomes described here applies to your device.
As of October 2026, the shutdown has been in effect for several months, so the practical question is no longer whether the change will happen but which of your devices are still covered.
