Is Webull Safe to Use? Security, Privacy and SIPC Coverage Explained

Webull describes encryption, monitoring and two-factor authentication, and Webull Financial LLC is a FINRA and SIPC member. Here’s what those facts mean for account access, privacy and investment risk.

Webull is a regulated U.S. brokerage with security controls and account protections it describes publicly, but “safe” is not a guarantee against account compromise, outages or investment losses. Webull Financial LLC is registered with the SEC and is a FINRA and SIPC member. SIPC can protect eligible customer property if a member brokerage fails; it does not insure the value of investments. Your risk also depends on which Webull product and legal entity you use, what information you share, and how you secure your account.

What “safe” means for a Webull account

Brokerage safety has several separate dimensions. Webull’s controls address certain unauthorized-access and data risks; registration and SIPC membership relate to the brokerage and custody framework; neither guarantees continuous access or protects you from market movements.

  • Account access and data: Can someone access your account, and what information does Webull collect or share?
  • Brokerage failure: What protections may apply if the broker-dealer fails, and which account and assets qualify?
  • Investment risk and availability: Can an investment lose value, or could a service disruption prevent you from trading when you want?

These questions should be evaluated separately. A security audit is not a regulator’s endorsement of an investment, and brokerage protections are not a promise that an account can never be compromised.

What security controls does Webull describe?

Webull’s Privacy & Security page says sensitive data is encrypted at rest and in transit, access is limited according to business needs, and systems use monitoring, backups, vulnerability scans and penetration tests. Its customer information FAQ also describes intrusion detection, incident response, business continuity and multifactor authentication. These are Webull’s descriptions of its program, not an independent finding that every system is immune to attack.

Webull’s reported SOC 2 audit

Webull says Webull Corporation completed a SOC 2 Type II audit in October 2024 with an unqualified opinion, conducted by Prescient Assurance. A SOC 2 Type II audit evaluates controls against a defined framework over a specified period; the result does not establish that breaches are impossible or that every product, entity, or future period has the same coverage. The audit statement is Webull’s report of the result.

Two-factor authentication and trusted devices

Webull’s 2FA help page says a verification code is sent to the phone number registered to the account when logging in from a new or unrecognized device. It also says customers can review or remove trusted devices. The page describes this phone-code method; it does not establish support for hardware security keys or authenticator apps.

What information does Webull collect and share?

Webull’s customer information FAQ says it collects legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, contact details, income, bank-account data, device identifiers, login behavior and platform activity. Its full Webull Financial LLC Privacy Notice, last updated January 21, 2022, also describes profile, account activity, location and tracking information. Because that full notice is dated, review the live privacy terms for the entity and product you use.

Webull says it shares information with service providers when needed to operate services or comply with law, and that providers are contractually required to safeguard it. Its separate Regulation S-P Privacy Notice, revised January 21, 2022, lists sharing for everyday business and Webull marketing, as well as some affiliate purposes. It lists joint marketing with nonaffiliated financial companies and marketing by nonaffiliates as not shared. The notice describes limits customers may request for certain sharing and says some sharing may continue after the relationship ends. Since the notice is dated, consult the current version rather than assuming its table still reflects every current practice.

Webull says U.S. users’ personal information is stored in the United States. Its FAQ names AWS infrastructure and locations in Northern Virginia and Northern California. These are company statements about U.S. user information, not a general statement about every Webull entity or jurisdiction.

Does SIPC protect money held at Webull?

Webull’s registration and SIPC disclosure says securities trading is provided by Webull Financial LLC, which is registered with the SEC and is a FINRA and SIPC member. The disclosure summarizes SIPC protection as up to $500,000 for eligible customer property, including a $250,000 sublimit for cash, if a member brokerage fails and customer assets are missing. Eligibility and coverage depend on the account and circumstances; like-titled accounts are combined for coverage calculations.

SIPC is not FDIC insurance and does not compensate customers when securities decline in market value. Webull’s disclosure says futures accounts and assets held outside the securities account are not covered by SIPC. It also describes excess coverage that depends on whether an account is under an omnibus or fully disclosed clearing arrangement; do not treat those excess limits as a blanket promise for every customer. Check the current disclosure for your specific account type and clearing arrangement.

How to reduce account-security risk

These steps address risks you can influence; they cannot eliminate brokerage, device, network or market risk.

  1. Use a unique password. Do not reuse your Webull password on email, shopping or other financial accounts. A compromise elsewhere should not give an attacker the same credentials.
  2. Enable the available verification feature. Review Webull’s 2FA settings and make sure the registered phone number is current. Use the trusted-device controls to remove devices you no longer recognize or use.
  3. Secure your email and phone account. Protect the email address and phone number connected to your brokerage account; they may be important to login verification and account recovery. Use strong, distinct credentials and available security protections with those providers.
  4. Review account activity and devices. Check for unfamiliar logins, trusted devices, transactions or profile changes. Contact Webull through its official support channels if something looks wrong.
  5. Confirm the product and entity. Check whether you are using a securities account, futures account or another product, and read the disclosures for the entity that provides it. Protections described for Webull Financial LLC securities accounts should not be generalized to every Webull product.
  6. Read current privacy terms. Check the latest privacy notice and any available sharing choices, especially if you rely on a restriction described in a notice dated January 2022.

How to evaluate Webull against another broker

A useful comparison checks equivalent disclosures rather than relying on a single “safe” rating. Compare the legal entity and registrations, account type and applicable SIPC coverage, clearing arrangement and any excess coverage, login-verification methods, data collection and sharing, and the scope and date of any stated security audit. Treat each company’s own security claims as disclosures unless independently substantiated; the available information here does not establish a comparative breach likelihood or security ranking for Webull.
