Is There a Nu Html Checker for JavaScript?

Nu Html Checker is for HTML, CSS, and SVG. For JavaScript syntax and code-quality checks, use a JavaScript-specific parser or linter such as JSLint or JSHint.

No. Nu Html Checker (v.Nu) checks HTML, CSS, and SVG; it is not a JavaScript parser or linter. It may encounter inline JavaScript while processing an HTML document, but use a JavaScript-specific tool such as JSLint or JSHint to check JavaScript syntax and code quality.

What Nu Html Checker checks

The project describes v.Nu as a tool to “catch problems in your HTML, CSS, and SVG.” It is useful for finding document and markup issues, but its scope does not include JavaScript validation. You can use the live service at validator.nu; the project also documents ways to run it locally or automate it, including a command-line application and other distribution options.

The W3C tools directory also lists the Nu HTML Checker among validation tools: W3C developer tools.

What happens to JavaScript inside HTML?

If an HTML document contains inline code, the checker processes the document around that code. A message associated with an inline snippet may appear during that process, but it does not mean v.Nu fully parses or analyzes JavaScript. This is especially important for code in an event-handler attribute such as onclick: checking the containing markup is not a substitute for checking the JavaScript expression itself.

For JavaScript diagnostics, use a JavaScript-specific parser or linter. JSLint and JSHint are examples; the appropriate tool depends on whether you want syntax feedback, style rules, or broader code-quality checks. Some editors and coding environments also offer JavaScript analysis features.

Which tool should you use?

Need Use What it checks
Check page markup and document conformance issues Nu Html Checker (v.Nu) HTML, CSS, and SVG
Check JavaScript syntax or code quality A JavaScript parser or linter, such as JSLint or JSHint JavaScript-specific diagnostics

For a page that includes both markup and scripts, run both kinds of checks: use v.Nu for the document and a JavaScript tool for the script. Neither result replaces the other.

How to interpret a clean result

A checker result is feedback, not certification. The Nu Html Checker’s About page says it should not be used to unilaterally enforce pass/fail conformance to specifications; it is “intended solely as a checker, not as a pass/fail certification mechanism.” The project also notes that checks continue to be added, so a document that reports no errors now may produce different feedback as the checker evolves. See the Nu Html Checker About page.
