What is different about the Zelda edition?
The confirmed change is the special Zelda-themed design: Nintendo says the controller features a Triforce design. Nintendo lists it both on its own and in a bundle that includes a display stand. The stand is an additional bundle item, not a documented change to what the controller can do.

Nintendo’s US announcement describes the edition and its design in its September 8, 2026 Zelda 40th Anniversary announcement. Nintendo’s Japanese corporate announcement also lists the product and its release date: Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s announcement.

Nintendo’s US store lists the standard controller at $89.99, the Zelda edition by itself at $99.99, and the Zelda controller with display stand at $109.99. These are US list prices shown in Nintendo’s Switch 2 hardware and accessories listings as accessed October 7, 2026; prices can change.

For a separate regional reference, Nintendo’s Japanese corporate release lists a suggested retail price of ¥12,980 including tax for its Japanese edition. That is a Japanese price with a different market and tax basis; it should not be treated as a direct conversion of the US listings.
Are its buttons or performance different?
Nintendo’s announcement and support material reviewed here do not specify an edition-specific change to controls, internal hardware, or performance. That means a functional difference is not established; it does not prove that the internals are identical.

Nintendo Support describes features of the Switch 2 Pro Controller model family: a C button for opening the GameChat menu, freely mappable GL/GR buttons, and an audio jack. These are platform-level features, not features identified as unique to the Zelda edition. Nintendo’s Switch 2 Pro Controller FAQ also says the controller works only with Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Nintendo Switch.
When does the Zelda controller release?
Nintendo gives October 29, 2026 as the release date for the Zelda controller products. As of October 7, 2026, that date is still in the future, so the controller has not yet reached its announced release date. The US store also lists the standard Switch 2 Pro Controller with a June 5, 2025 release date; the listing can be found on Nintendo’s US hardware and systems page.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose the standard controller if you want the listed standard design and do not value the Zelda-themed appearance.
- Choose the Zelda controller alone if you want the Triforce design without the display stand.
- Choose the stand bundle if you also want the included display stand.
The listed price difference in the US is $10 for the Zelda controller alone versus the standard controller, or $20 for the stand bundle versus the standard controller. Those comparisons use Nintendo’s US list prices accessed October 7, 2026.
