Short answer: the Starbucks Rewards Visa is worth considering only if you can confirm the account is available to you, reliably earn and redeem enough eligible Stars to offset its fee, and pay the balance in full. The filed Chase agreement lists a $49 annual fee, but current new-application availability and card-specific earning terms are not established by the official pages reviewed. Check directly with Chase before acting.
Is the Starbucks Rewards Visa still available?
That is the first question to resolve. Starbucks’ credit-card page displays an application prompt, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s agreement database contains filed Starbucks Rewards Visa agreements from Chase. Neither fact confirms that Chase is currently accepting applications. An agreement can remain on file after a product stops taking new applicants, and a webpage prompt alone is not proof of an active offer.

If you are considering a new account, confirm availability and the complete current offer directly with Chase. If you already have the card, evaluate the terms and benefits shown on your own account statements and cardholder materials; a filed agreement is not a personalized, current quote.
Starbucks’ Rewards credit-card page identifies Chase as the issuer. The CFPB card agreement database confirms that Chase agreements for Starbucks Rewards Visa cards are filed, but does not establish current issuance.

What fee and rates appear in the filed agreement?
The Chase Bank USA, N.A. Starbucks Rewards Visa Signature agreement in the CFPB collection lists the following terms. The figures were accessed October 7, 2026; they are agreement figures, not a live offer or confirmation that every existing account has identical current pricing.
| Term | Filed agreement | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Annual membership fee | $49 | Compare it with rewards you can actually earn and redeem. |
| Purchase APR | 17.49%–21.49% variable | Your applicable rate and current terms may differ; check your account disclosures. |
| Foreign transaction fee | 3% | This fee can make the card costly to use for purchases abroad. |
The agreement also contains balance-transfer, cash-advance, and penalty-fee terms. Review the complete agreement and your own account disclosures for those charges rather than assuming they match a particular offer. The filed agreement is available through the CFPB’s card agreement collection.

How do the current Starbucks Stars rules affect the card’s value?
Starbucks’ U.S. Rewards Terms of Use, effective March 10, 2026, define a three-level program: Green, Gold, and Reserve. Members earn Stars through qualifying activity under the current terms, with rates and eligibility affected by membership level, transaction conditions, payment method, participating locations, and offers. The reviewed official materials do not establish a current card-specific earning rate or welcome offer, so old card marketing figures should not be treated as current.

Current levels and thresholds
| Level | Threshold in the current terms | Star expiration |
|---|---|---|
| Green | Entry level | Stars generally expire after six months, subject to activity and the terms’ exceptions. |
| Gold | 500 Stars in the relevant 12-month period | Stars do not expire while the member maintains the status. |
| Reserve | 2,500 new Stars in the applicable period after reaching Gold | Stars do not expire while the member maintains the status. |
These thresholds and status rules come from Starbucks’ current Rewards Terms of Use, which also reserve the company’s right to change program levels and requirements. Read the live terms for timing, maintenance conditions, and exceptions before estimating how long your Stars will remain available.

Stars are not cash, and not every purchase qualifies
Starbucks says Stars “are promotional, have no cash value and cannot be redeemed for cash.” They can be redeemed only for eligible Rewards at participating stores, subject to exclusions. That means a Star balance should not be treated as a fixed dollar amount or compared with the card’s fee as though it were cash back.
The terms allow Stars on qualifying purchases at participating U.S. locations using specified payment methods, including a Starbucks Card, a linked payment method, or scanning a member barcode and then paying with an accepted method. Offers and partner programs may also qualify. Some transactions and channels are excluded, including alcohol, Starbucks Card purchases or reloads in the general case, guest checkouts, certain delivery or beta programs, taxes, tips, and fees. Earning and redemption availability varies by participating store. Check the Starbucks Rewards terms for the exact rules that apply to your transaction.

Starbucks also states that the Rewards program itself has no participation or membership fee. That is separate from the credit card’s $49 annual fee listed in the filed agreement.
When might the card be worth it?
It may make sense for an existing cardholder—or a prospective applicant if Chase confirms applications are open—who spends frequently at eligible Starbucks locations, can use the Stars they earn, and pays the statement balance in full. The key is not simply how often you visit Starbucks; it is whether your qualifying purchases and actual redemptions provide enough usable value to justify the annual fee under terms you can verify.

- Starbucks Cards redeemable at most SB locations
- It’s a great way to treat a friend. It’s a convenient way to pre-pay for your own regular purchases.
- Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
- This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return.
- Check your actual earning: Use current account information and the live Starbucks terms, not a historic advertised card rate.
- Count redemptions you would genuinely use: Stars are restricted to eligible Rewards, not cash, and store participation and exclusions matter.
- Include the fee: Compare realistic annual redemptions with the $49 fee listed in the filed agreement, while confirming the fee on your own current terms.
- Consider your alternative: Compare with a no-annual-fee general rewards card or using Starbucks Rewards without this credit account. The loyalty program can be used separately from the card.
When is it a poor fit?
The card is a weak fit if the Stars you can reliably earn and redeem do not justify the fee, if you rarely make qualifying purchases, or if your usual transactions are excluded. It is also a poor borrowing tool: interest on a revolving balance can outweigh the value of rewards. The filed agreement’s variable purchase APR range is not a personalized rate, but it is a reason to avoid carrying a balance for the sake of earning Stars.
International use deserves separate scrutiny. The filed agreement lists a 3% foreign transaction fee, which may reduce or erase the appeal of using the card abroad. Check your current card terms before traveling.
Quick Recap
How to make the decision
- Ask Chase whether the card is available. Do not treat Starbucks’ application prompt or an agreement in the CFPB database as proof that new applications are open.
- Get the current full terms. Confirm the annual fee, APR, foreign transaction fee, earning schedule, welcome offer if any, and eligibility directly with the issuer or in your existing account disclosures.
- Estimate usable rewards under today’s Starbucks rules. Use the live earning and redemption rules for your level, payment method, location, and intended Rewards.
- Compare net value and borrowing cost. Decide whether realistic redemptions justify the fee, and do not carry a balance to earn rewards.
- Recheck Starbucks’ terms before changing behavior. The program can change its levels, benefits, qualifying activity, and conditions.
